Exercising after a meal

How long should you wait to work out, especially when doing cardio and HIIT, after you eat a full meal?

I will sometimes eat an hour, sometimes a little longer, before and will get cramps. I am not sure how long to wait! I usually try to wait to eat after my workout.

I think the answer to this could really vary by person. You may need a little more time between snack and workout.

I like to have a small snack about 1-1.5 hours before cardio. Usually a banana or piece of toast. Any more and I will feel really nauseous. I probably would need close to 3 hours after a full meal.

This is very individual. For you, an hour is evidently too soon, as you're getting cramps. Maybe try 2 hours?

I routinely eat after workouts, and suffer no ill effect, but I'm blessed with the digestive system of a true peasant - I can eat anything, anytime, it seems like.

I'm not trying to be flippant, but I do truly think this is so individual that the best idea is to experiment. You may even find that what's in the meal (protein, fats, high volume, fiber, whatever) may make a difference in how settled your stomach is; or even how much water you drink before or during the meal may be relevant.

Hoping you find a good formula!

Agree with the others. There is no real way for anyone to tell this for you. But listen to the queues your body is giving you and change it up if what you are feeling is unpleasant.
