Anyone else so obsessed with bettering themselves that other people get annoyed?

I need to befriend some fitness like minded people who are willing to share constant fitness memes. Screw those people who say we talk about food and exercising too much. Once you see results, the more you love yourself and the more you become obsessed with it .
Cheers to new waist sizes !!!!!

Fitness and health are definitely a huge part of my life. But I also understand they aren't for everyone so I try to be mindful of that and not overwhelm everyone with it.12

You don't really want to be that person, do you? Hopefully your friends will still be there when you run out of fitness memes and motivational quotes.13

I try to be mindful about my journey as well. It's often difficult because many of us share a very long & complicated journey to get to where we want to be and it's hard to stifle the excitement as we reach significant milestones. I look to MFP to celebrate !!4

You need to know your audience. Talk about anything over and over again with people that have no interest and anyone will get annoyed! I don't talk to friends about this stuff unless they bring it up, some people can feel like you are being superior or putting them down too even if that isn't you goal you don't want to make your friends feel bad.
I love MFP for this, I can talk about health and fitness allll day long and no one will get annoyed. Glad you found the right place for this!

IMHO, while being in shape is laudable, being one-dimensional certainly isn't.
I am *very* into fitness, but I have other interests and a life outside of the gym. I have a career I think is fun; I enjoy spending time with my daughter & husband, riding motorcycles, reading, watching movies, hockey, art, music, craft beer...so, yeah, I'll post workout-related memes and stuff on social media, but that's not ALL I post or talk about or think about.12 -
I think it's important to be well-rounded and maintain a diverse social life. Consequently, while my social media feeds include some fitness and food content, they also include my misbegotten crafts projects and creative pursuits, some personal worries/failures (don't want to be that fakey carefully-curated pseudo-perfect person), and more. I try to think about framing things in ways that will be inclusive and interesting to all my friends, not just one subset of them.
I know that some people prefer to focus their social lives and social media on a set of fully like-minded people, and that's find, but that's not my thing.
I hope your approach is rewarding for you, which is what's important!6 -
I'm on both sides of this, I guess. I am extremely annoyed by people who constantly talk about their weight and diet, and share "inspirational" fitness memes. It makes me very irritated and I unfollow them on social media even if they are good friends.
While I really don't talk about dieting/weight loss with friends outside of forums like MFP, I still manage to annoy my real-life friends by "being obsessed with bettering myself". Most of them live pretty healthy lives, so it's not like I'm completely different from them. But I am always eager to keep up my routines & habits like getting 9 hours of sleep, trying tons of new skincare/makeup products, preventative dental visits, constantly tweaking my wardrobe, visiting new places, reading a huge range of new books/genres, volunteering, etc. A lot of my friends do not have the time/energy or the desire to pursue any of these things to the extent that I do, whether due to their kids or different lifestyle. They roll their eyes. That's ok.1 -
I'm walking the walk; but not talking the talk. I only tell people about my efforts if they ask or if they offer me something that is over my caloric goal. I'm proud of my efforts, but I'm a fairly low-key person who doesn't need 3rd party affirmations to know I'm doing well.6

Yes, but other people seem to be annoyed when I say, “no thank you” to dessert or reduced portions of high fat entree when eating out or at a social function. They say,”you’ve lost so you can ‘afford’ to eat it.” Family & friends are not supportive, esp. if they have been unsuccessful in their weight loss.0

Health, fitness and nutrition are all a huge priority in my life. However, I keep quiet on what I eat, my workouts, my progress etc. with those around me unless I get asked questions.
I did share my efforts, struggles and successes early on with others, but I felt like I was bragging or people didn't care or understand, so I quickly learned early on to keep it to myself.
Over the years both online and organically I've met some awesome like-minded people where I feel comfortable sharing things (and hearing things from them) and it's a better fit for me. I know they get it and understand.5 -
Part of bettering myself is bettering my social relations. Social relations are as important to health as anything else you do for your health. I do think about food and activity a lot, but I also have other interests, so what I talk about depends on what interests me and that person share.
If it's someone who is working on their weight, of course we would discuss weight and commiserate. I'm not going to talk about running with my gaming friends because I'm too busy talking about games.
I see no point in boring my family with weight and fitness because communication is a two-way street and talking about nothing but my interests is selfish. Plus I would be opening doors I'd rather not open because they would feel invited to comment about my weight management and fitness methods.6
