@baconslave, I can so relate! I have to accept the idea that it’s going to take a while to get my weight back down. It was a lot more exciting the last time! And I am dodging occasions that inevitably come up where we are celebrating something. My new strategy is to take my piece of cake home, being gracious, but too full, and giving it to my husband.
Love the face!! It’s mine, today, too!!! Thanks for the laugh!1 -

I'm not surprised or anything, since the last 15lb took over 6 months to lose to begin with. It's still an unpleasant and prolonged effort. I do hope it doesn't take 6 months to get this off. Geez. It did not take that long to put it on.
I'm not sure how much the of face was the restriction-face or the Monday-face. But it was Monday ALL DAY YESTERDAY.
That's a great strategy, btw. Except for me it's my ravenous kids that make the cake disappear for me.3 -
Yo fellow maintainers, I've been clamping down myself as well, to get back into my maintenance range. I found the following in a Fitness column in a community newspaper, and it really resonated with me with respect to manufacturing motivation.
Actions are powerful.
But the value of action is more than just taking responsibility, it lies in its ability to create motivation.
When we take an action that brings us closer to our goal, that goal becomes clearer and it sharpens our motivation.
In the absence of motivation, act, and the motivation will follow.[/i]
All the best y'all! 🌼🌞🎺6 -
Progress for long-term maintenance people is going to be reallllly slow, if you have held onto the weight for any period of time. It sucks, but it's true. I am working hard on just losing 2-4 lbs. (only 5'0" and not a young 'un) and I know it will take a few months, if not longer. Hang in there ... losing this time is not as exciting as the first, but I feel a sense of control and yes, of freedom, when I get back on this particular "horse". We have the skills; we just need to use them.5

One week check-in (well, for me, anyways).
Starting weight (last Monday) - 144.8
Today - 142.3
I'm overall pleased with this. I was hoping to see a 2 lb weight loss my first week. My main goal was to log every day, which I did. I think the scale might have even gone a tick lower had I not splurged a little bit too much on Easter. Hoping to get right back at it today.
Goals this week -
1 lb weight loss, log food every day
Hope everyone's week is off to a good start.

How long in maintenance: 2 years
Goal maintenance range: 130-135
Current weight: 136
Current goal: 133
Recent success: Introduced some intervals for running while in a calorie deficit and this helped me retain my conditioning for the duration.6 -
So far I'm doing really badly at staying within my limit. Usually I'm over by 200-400 calories. Eating pie from Easter doesn't help, but it's not the whole problem. I have been doing some running, with mixed success. Yesterday my legs didn't hurt for most of the run, which was a huge win, but I had a hard time breathing because of allergies and wind so it generally sucked. I need to get my exercise back to normal but motivation is lacking when it either hurts or I can't get any air. I went to a PT but he wasn't much help with the hamstrings. Graston felt good, but I can't afford to go back regularly since my insurance copay is so high and the effects didn't last.3

How long in maintenance: 6 years
Goal maintenance range: 130lbs-135lbs
Current weight: 134.4lbs
Current goal: continuing to research and experiment with a lower carb woe (transitioning from a high carb, mostly plant based diet)
Recent success: lost the winter weight gain I was struggling with. Some of it was water weight from the reduction of carbs, but I'm also tracking my calorie intake and some of it is actual loss as well. Either way my jeans fit nicely again so yay7 -

How long in maintenance: 3 years
Goal maintenance range: 140-145
Current weight: 158
Current goal: lose 1/2 lb a week
Recent success: I ran 13 treadmill miles a couple weeks ago!
My maintenance journey has been full of gains and losses. In 2015 I broke my foot. It healed. I broke it again. 2016 was a long, stressful year of breast cancer, radiation, and lost my father. Broke my leg in May 2018 and so far this year has been a long, stressful contractor saga. Hello, my name is Nikki, and I'm a stress eater. I really want to get back to 140 and have a maintenance strategy to stay there this time, and I think this thread will help.15 -

Have you checked your bone density? That seems like a lot of broken bones.3 -
How long in maintenance: 3 years
Goal maintenance range: 122-127
Current weight: 130
Current goal: Get back to around 125
Recent success: Changed my batteries in my scale in January and realized that I was actually 5 lbs heavier than I realized, putting me at 132. It was surprising at the time but made sense after thing about it, I had started a new job in November that messed up my routine a bit, kind of felt like I was slacking with my eating/fitness during the transition but the scale was staying at 127 so I was just blindly trusting that. So, recent success is that I've lost 2 of those extra 5lbs, even if it's at a ridiculously slow pace. I've dropped down into the 128's a few time but this week has all been around 130 unfortunately.
Working on trusting the process again and actually making sure I get in at least my 3 runs a week. My 10km run is about 7 minutes slower now than it was a couple years ago so I'd like to try and get back to that pace.7 -

Current goal: Get that fluff off. Saw myself in my 16-year-old's pic of us playing Four Square. Yuck. I'd love to be down to 150, but I was skinny fat then, and I'm 5'9.5" (ish) and have gained muscle. I'm 40 now. I'm being real. It's not going to happen. I'll settle for 160.
I also need to work on cardio conditioning. My lifting is ok, and I can walk forever and ever, but don't ask me to run for much more than 2 min. I almost died when I had to sub-in my dd's (darling daughter above) indoor soccer game when they had an injury and had no subs to begin with. I scored and kept up but I thought my heart was going to burst out my chest and run for the hills. I hate running but if I want to be able to play soccer and b-ball when I want, I need to suck it up and do more interval training stuff that I don't like. I need to stop being such a big baby.
Recent success: I've kept up my fitness level despite absolute madness in my home life thanks to 4 kids, 2 of which are teens who cannot yet drive but insist on doing ALL THE THINGS. And also thanks to homeschooling (which I've done for 12 years all on my own) and getting involved in a co-op. Pandora's box has been opened, and I can't stuff that witch back in there! And now they want me to teach a class in the fall. Ultra-UGH.
Edited: Because my fingers are apparently drunk this morning...
Current Weight: 171.4
Slow and steady just might finish the race...hopefully before they pack it all up and go home.
I'm getting a better handle on The Hangries. Most of the time the kids are no longer in danger of being mauled or eaten.

Current goal: Get back to range above. Cut out unhealthy carbs with breakfast.
Recent success: Have cut out all snacks after dinner, which is a major help.8 -
Had a great week until last night! Funny how little things can trip you up. I love sipping on ice coffee in the afternoon. I took kids to the movies and to Rita’s Italian Ice, and forgot my own drink. No popcorn for me, but talian ice, then dinner that just didn’t satisfy so the snack monster kicked in. I even wonder if the sugar made me want more! Crazy! I have been avoiding high carbs and sugar. Back on track today. I’m gonna keep this train going!5

How long in Maintenance - only 3 months
Goal maintenance range - 130 - 135
Current weight - 133.8
After a couple of rough weeks, I'm back in the middle of my maintenance range, but still 1.8 above where I am most comfortable. Have been focusing on food this week and will add back some more pool and gym time next week.
Too early to celebrate, but the trend is starting to move in the right direction again.

Everything I read says to give the beginning of maintenance some time, as our bodies adjust. You are doing GREAT!
I know you & I know you will conquer this just as you did your weight loss. You constantly inspire me❣️
I am just beginning maintenance & I hope you will remind me of the above when Things go differently than I expected.0 -
A far less chaotic week this week allowed more mindful eating and more exercise.
Did a couple of 100km bike rides to prepare for an organised event (scheduled for today but cancelled due to dangerously high winds).
Lost a pound and cycling fitness in a good place judging by my Strava results and hitting a good extended duration pace.

Thanks for the encouragement! I found the weight loss phase relatively easy. Have just been surprised that maintenance has been such a challenge. I think I am struggling most with failed expectations!1 -

So much of this resonates - I’m around 130lbs and literally have the same maintenance goal and range. I started a new job in June, but moved closer to the job at the end of October - totally screwed up all my routines, similar to you. Finally, I’m a runner, struggling with facing slower times than I would prefer based on previous successes. Wow... so much in common! Good luck to both of us!4 -

Recent success: Struggling to stay motivated. I’ll have a few great days, then derail. My psoriasis is flaring up again, so I’m going to go back on an elimination diet to find the source. I think it’s just wheat triggering it, but time to take the steps to verify. Once I’m back on that diet, my hope is I’ll capture some of that motivation again... slowly weaning myself off some foods over the next couple weeks.
