Eating Clean

It has been suggested to me that in order to firm up and reduce the cellulite I need to eat clean but how clean is clean?

I eat cheese daily and have treats like chocolate and alcohol whenever it fits in with my calorie allowance. I exercise 3-4 times a week for between 1-2 hours doing cardio including swimming and strength training.

Over the past year I've lost approaching 3 stone just by reducing my calories. I've had periods where I've been strict and stuck to my cutting calories but still fit in my treats, periods at maintenance and periods where everything has just gone out of the window and I've not logged anything.

I'm currently weighing in at 108/109lbs at 5"1 and according to my scales around 25/26% body fat. I started a year ago at 144lbs and 35% body fat so what I've done has worked. I don't want to have to never eat chocolate or cheese or drink alcohol ever again in order to achieve my goal. Please tell me I don't have to?!

Whoever told you that is full of rubbish and broscience. Eating healthy is important of course but as others have said - there’s no clear or agreed upon definition of “eating clean”. The occasional chess, chocolate, soda, etc in moderation will have little to do with your body composition goals. Far more important is the right strength training program, but also, realistic expectations. If you’re aspiring to a particular body aesthetic consider whether it’s actually achievable or if it’s perhaps something you’ve seen online or in magazines that isn’t actually how that person looks either...

I always eat clean! I wash my fruits and vegetables, cook my meats, and don't eat food after I've dropped it on the floor! Oh... that kind of clean eating .

As others have said, there's no sort documented benefit from "clean" eating. In a large part because the term has no real meaning but is more a catch all for "eat the way I am personally eating".

That's a requirement? Because it kind of depends on how sticky the food is, how badly I want it, and how clean the floor is...

Have I told you lately that I love you? :)

That one is negotiable. But in my apartment with 2 cats I generally consider the floor their domain and anything that has fallen there will inevitably have some form of cat on it. And while I love my cats, they are gross little jerks.

I just assume everything I eat has at least a little bit of cat fur, since there is fur on everything in my house no matter how much I clean. So the piece of candy I dropped on the floor might just have a few more bits of fur than usual.

And if it can be rinsed...

I've dropped frozen sausages on the floor before, but grabbed them as fast as I could and rinsed them well. They cooked up just fine and we weren't ill... :)

Unfortunately, as you get older and connective tissue becomes less taut, some of this dimpled fat is likely to be visible whether you’re in good shape or not. That's a medically proven fact.

There are all kinds of wild treatments around but none that have been studied properly. You are doing what you can, exercising regularly and restricting calories.

Since cellulite is simply displaced adipose tissue (fat tissue) , it is rarely found in Men because of a mans tissue structure. You have a female issue that likely will remain so indulge away, it won't change the arrangement of the tissue!

Ignore the poster above who said it was genetic...it is not.

I know many older women who don't have it. And many fit young that do. In fact I've had it since I hit puberty, despite being fit and lean.

My mom was 6 ft tall, weighed 155 lbs and had cellulite on her thighs. It's got a genetic component.
