You realize poeple can be on keto AND calorie count? But anyhow don’t do a diet you cannot sustain. Eat whatever and just be in a deficit assuming fat loss is your goal6

Then maybe keto isn't for you. It's not necessary for weight loss. What's best is whatever method of achieving a calorie deficit that is sustainable for you.7

If you 'can't get into it properly' aka it's not sustainable for you for whatever reason, then it's probably not for you. The best "diet" is one you can stick to long term. Obviously you wont be eating at a deficit for the rest of your life, but the method you choose should instill habits that you can keep up whether losing or maintaining. In other words, if you like carbs and treats, just find a way to fit them into your day.7

OP this question strikes me as being like what's best: science fiction or borrowing from the library??
Ie one can do both, it isn't either/or.
or one can do neither and still be reading a book - ie one can do neither keto nor calorie counting and still lose weight if eating in a deficit.
If you want to lose weight - Find a way of eating that puts you in a deficit and that is sustainable over the long term.3 -
even if you do keot you need to calorie count (unless you are one of the small minority who find it so filling you naturally keep to a calorie deficit but this is not common).
but if you keep "falling off" keto then maybe you need to just admit it's not for you. you don't need to do keto. it is just one way of eating. it works well for some but it's not for everyone. Weight loss is about eating less than your body uses over time regardless of WHAT you eat.4 -

You do realize you can eat keto "perfectly" and gain weight right?
Sometimes people naturally eat at a calorie deficit when so many foods are forbidden, and sometimes people find (high calorie) substitutes and eat the same calories as before. If "getting into it properly" means you are eating the same calories as before.....there will be no weight loss. Your carb % doesn't matter for weight loss, your overall calorie count does.4
