P90x

Hi everyone!
I bought the P90x program about 6 months ago and tried it, but thought it was really hard and I stopped. I just got serious about my weight loss in June and I have been running 4 miles a day and doing some strength training but nothing too extreme. I was wondering for those of you who have completed the 90 days what your thoughts are. I still want to lose about 35 pounds and I know that p90x is not about weight loss it is about fat loss, but will I lose any weight or am I better off losing the weight then doing the program? Also I don't have any doors to hang the pull up bar in, so how would I do that? Thank you all in advance!

While you're right that P90X is not a weight loss program, any time you add fitness to your daily routine, eat well, and maintain a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight. I lost 19 pounds in my first 90-day round of P90X, and since starting on my fitness journey lost 32 pounds, and dropped my body fat percentage from 40% to 22%.
You can use resistance bands rather than a pull-up bar...you'll just need one with some heavier resistance. Loop one end of the band through a roll of duct tape, hang the duct tape over the top of a door, and the the door on the bands. The duct tape will be on the opposite side of the door from where you are. Voila...instant alternative (plus, there's always one exerciser in the DVDs using resistance bands instead of doing pull ups).
Finally, if you think the program is too intense, try doing the "Lean" version rather than Classic. This is what I did in my first round because the thought of doing the first workout in the Classic rotation (Chest and Back) scared the living CRAP out of me. Don't be afraid to modify...honestly, I think it's a very doable program if you don't start off thinking you're going to keep up with everyone in the DVDs...that's not the point. The point is to do YOUR best...period.
Use the worksheets to record your weight and reps so that you can see your progress. Take all your stats (weight, measurements, body fat %, and pictures. You may find that there are times when the scale doesn't move like you want it to, but the proof that you're making progress is in the pictures and your measurements. The nutrition in the first 30 days is the most challenging...it's very low carb, which is tough for many.
Best of luck if you decide to give it a shot...if you've got questions, feel free to ask me (I've done 3 rounds).0 -
i'm doing p90x and have lost 5 lbs. You can buy bands at walmart and use them instead of the pull up bar. I'm on day 30. Hope to actually make it to day 90.0

Thanks yall! My daughter's 1st birthday is this Friday and we have lots of friends and family going to be in town, So I am thinking about starting the p90x on August 1st. If I try to start it today I will fail while they are in town. I will just continue to eat low calories and workout at the gym as much as possible while they are in town and then try to start on the 1st.0

Hi Bethany!
You definitely want to have a grasp of the diet before you start. You can modify all the moves. And like Tony says, "Do your best, and forget the rest!"
I am on Phase 3, and lost 18 lbs my first 2 phases. I add cardio a few days a week in addition to my X workouts.
Good Luck!0 -
Thanks Dana! I am really excited to try this!0
