Here is a more comprehensive overview of what causes type 2 diabetes and how to reverse it. It is a study of studies. Basically a paper that brings a collection of studies together to make a conclusion. If not enough evidence they will say more research is needed. If enough evidence, they can make a conclusion and this paper has a conclusion.

In short summary the paper says that type 2 diabetes is caused by too much fat on the pancreas and liver as those two organs are needed to control glucose levels. To correct this problem you need to force your body to use up fat stores in those two organs. The paper says that this can be achieved by a 600 calorie diet max a day. Phase 1 insulin response came back in as little as 1 week and looked like a normal person at week 8.

In addition to that the study looks at a moderate calorie diet to see if it also reverses type 2 diabetes. It does not. The paper cited a 3 year study in which patients lost 20 pounds. Their glucose levels lowered but not by much. No indication of phase 1 response coming back.

Something I want to add is that alternative day fasting should also work. One high calorie day, followed by a very low calorie day. You can also do Michael Moosley's 5:2 or Judd your way to nomal beta cells. Just keep in mind that this is not a 100% success rate and depends on how long you've been a diabetic.
  • Thanks for that additional information - looks good.
