Rough Day

I am not doing well today. I am currently in my local favorite seafood place waiting on my large plate of fried seafood. I know that I'm eating my feelings and there are better choices....I spent the last 2 hours trying to talk myself out of coming here. But I failed, I gave in. How do you keep yourself from giving in when things are bad?

When your food arrives, immediately ask for a to-go box and put half in it. You've just cut the damage in half. Then eat and enjoy the rest.

Yes, there are better ways to deal with stress and emotions, but that's moot at the moment. I would suggest you look into some online resources for CBT, at the very least, so next time something has you upset you'll have some tools for coping in a better way.

    It can be difficult.
I preplan what I’m going to get before I go. Most restaurants have menus online. Usually grilled entree, steamed veggies, and any dressing on the side. I have to keep telling myself less healthy choices are “other people’s” food now and stick with my better choice. Just the way it has to be.

I freaking LOVE batter dipped fish. But my real weakness is the fries and the hush puppies that come with it. Maybe have your seafood and get healthy sides? Most places have them. Another commenter suggested just eating half at a time and that's also a good idea. You don't have to give up everything you love, or punish yourself when you slip. Sometimes compromise works best.
