Okay, my last post and then I'm OFF this machine!

I am having a TERRIBLE time finding good, healthy meals that don't add up to hundreds and hundreds of calories!

Breakfasts are easy for me.

Lunches, less so.

Suppers even less so.

What are some of your favorite, family-friendly (read: accepted and enjoyed!) MEALS for lunches and suppers?

I like to use whole foods.

Ideas for me?

I've been very discouraged about how hard it is to eat without those ridiculous numbers adding up too quickly! Then... there's no room for snacks, later, when my stomach is either growling or I have simple munchies.

Love,
carrie

Ask all the questions you want to ask!!!! :flowerforyou:

For lunch I like a sandwich with whole wheat bread, some 2% milk cheese and lean ham or turkey. A cup of soup or salad.

For dinner I like chicken breast, lean beef or fish with a big salad, little low fat dressing. If you cook rice or potatoes limit the amount to 1/2 a cup. I like making potato salad with mustard instead of mayo and I sprinkle paprika on it. My husband loves it. It could be whole grain or whole wheat pasta with low fat ground beef or turkey sausage...try different recipes from this site or look for other recipes in sparkpeople.com or other sites.

And don't forget to work out so you earn more calories!!

    Good luck!!!

my lunches are usually soups with fruit and yogurt on the side.

For dinner try to always have a tossed salad with whatever you choose to eat, it helps fill you up without many calories. I measure out my meat portions to 3 ounces and then throw in a serving of steamed veggies and a serving of grains. Occaisionally I even have pasta.

There's a lot of experimenting to do. . .google "lower fat substitutions" and lots of ideas will come up for adapting your current recipes. You'll find that some things suit your tastes, and some don't. For example, for me. . . only butter is butter. I can reduce it in a recipe, but can't take it out entirely.

For trying new recipes, I enjoy Cooking Light recipes (there are a lot available online). I have served them to company, and they are flavorful and visually appealing.

Also, at "sparkpeople.com" there is a wonderful recipe calculator, that you can feed your recipe into and discover where the calories lurk.

Oh, and the website for whole foods stores has a wonderful recipe section!

Be patient, and don't be afraid to experiment a bit, and you'll figure it out!:flowerforyou:

I really like those soups in the boxes...I find they are so low cal and you can eat the entire box (2 servings) if you want too. But I'd probably just eat 1/2 and then make a turkey sandwhich if I feel like eating more.
