new to keto, gaining weight!

I am a 58 year old woman. only two-three days on program. I cant seem eat enough calories on the app. still working on balancing macros. but scary to gain weight when im trying to loose. even with not eating said calories. Ive been on other programs for a long time. i was on 1200/day. this one has me on 15-17! plus if i record my excersize it adds calories to required intake. I dont even get to 1200. any ideas? help?

Three days? You're still in a phase of roller-coaster weight readings from normal, healthy water weight fluctuations and changes in digestive system contents. If you've changed exercise as well, that's an added complicating factor. Stick with it for 4-6 weeks and see where it settles out.

She who loses weight while eating the most calories, wins.

I lost most of 50ish pounds in less than a year at 1400-1600 plus all exercise calories, so 1800-1900 gross much of the time at age 59-60, sedentary outside of intentional exercise, hypothyroid, and not keto (150ish carb grams daily). MFP can be wrong, but it's accurate for most, if your profile settings are right.

If you can't get enough calories, add more calorie-dense foods like nuts, nut butters, avocados, full-fat dairy foods, a bit more oil in cooking or on veggies, etc.

Hang in there, monitor longer. Best wishes!

How much have you gained? It can take up to 1-2 weeks to go into ketosis so give it time. Also, don't get hung up on weight. Note your measurements at regular intervals. Finally, be wary of hidden carbs in sauces and toppings that may keep you from going into ketosis or kick you out of it. You can purchase keto strips from Walmart that will let you know where you stand.

Ketosis does not mean weight loss is occurring so it is a waste of money to test for it.

OP, here is a good article on weight fluctuations:
