Supplements

One friend got me started on Beachbody. Seems okay though the nutrition programs insisting on using their supplements rubs me the wrong way. Another friend gave me an Isagenix starter kit. Also seems ok, but I don’t like that the app is centered on ads for their products. A few ladies I follow are staunch 1st Phorm advocates, and I like that their website is not hardcore pushing their products....if you use any supplements, what do you use and why?

Best supplements are healthy food and all the suplements are workaround if you have no chance to get all you need from regular food... supplemets that makes sense under some conditions with scientific evidence... Whey prot, creatine (for strength training) and vitamis if you miss any (e. g. D). Coffee/cafeine is best and only working fat burner worth 50kcal 😁 Dont pay for placebo pls.

I don't use supplements myself, but it's important to remember this pyramid.

Beachbody is a company, not necessarily a "method". They offer a range of different products, from workout videos, to shakeology, to a container based system of food measuring, and some other related things. Obviously as a business, it's in their interest to try to crossmarket to you as many products as possible. But one doesn't depend on another.

I think their beach body demand is a good option for those who want to work out from home. It offers a ton of different programs for whatever the fitness goals are, and the $99 a year fee is reasonable. It doesn't really push shakeology and other products, besides ads at the end. My wife uses Shakeology for her morning breakfast and loves it. It's helped her a lot with calorie management by giving her a low calorie option that keeps her filled until lunch. But it is expensive. A lot more than most protein shakes. Part of the reason is that it is made generally with high quality ingredients, but a big part is that Beachbody is a multi level marketing company, so they pay commissions to their army of "coaches" who sell products to their friends. Your friend who was pushing it was probably one of them. But still, I'm happy for my wife that she has it and likes it, and for the improvement it's assisted with, I definitely feel it's worth it. Their portion control food measuring system I don't really have any interest in. To me it is better to just count calories on MFP.

Really though, the average dieter does not need any products or supplements. You can accomplish all you are trying to accomplish by eating regular food. Sometimes protein shakes and the like can be beneficial if their convenience allows you to make caloric choices that help you meet your goal in ways that you are not normally able to. That's why I think it's beneficial for my wife. But outside of sometimes a protein meal bar for breakfast (again, for convenience), I don't use anything.

I don’t use any supplements because they aren’t necessary for weight management, and because I haven’t been diagnosed with any deficiencies.

Overall, there are only a few supplements that have repeatedly demonstrated to be beneficial. The above thread discusses it a bit. And in reality, the need to supplement (short of a deficiency) should only be discussed if you are trying to optimize training performance and training.
