Not sure if you meant that as a pun, but good one nonetheless.

@ashleygroizard I have been at the same weight +/- ~15 lbs since high school (11+ years ago). I can track calories and lose 10 pounds, or spiral into unhealthy eating patterns and gain 10 pounds, but if I don't do anything I tend to stay at this same weight +/- 5 pounds. For me and others with my type of weight pattern, set-point theory could definitely be a real thing. I think it may not be a thing for people who haven't given their body enough time (maybe several years) to adjust to a new set point. Also I'm a registered dietitian
Do you help people lose weight for free on here or I’d have to pay? If you did help for free I was wondering if you could help me and if I can add you?10 -
OP, technically, what you describe is homeostasis. You are in balance. Set Point is like a thermostat, that kicks in to bring you back to your body’s “preferred” weight. I believe in the first and not the latter. Subtle difference, I know.6

If we're being technical, set point would be allostatis instead of homeostasis.7 -

Please disengage from this thread OP. You need help that the respondents cannot provide.17 -
@ashleygroizard I have been reading through this thread since yesterday. I have have an eating disorder and I had to do my therapy before I could commit to MFP and my journey. Listen to what everyone is telling you, work with your therapist and get a healthy mindset. These forums are great but they are no replacement for professional help.20

I don’t think you can kick me off my fitness pal11 -
You want help. And you need help, but the people in the forums are not able to provide you with the help you need.
Everyone's repeating one and the same thing - discuss MFP with your therapist. Do they even approve of you being here? (It's a rhetorical question, no need to answer) Maybe show them this thread and discuss it with them. But you definitely need to take a breather and reconcentrate on your health with your therapist assistance, not with a bunch of strangers whom you see as if they are attacking you constantly. I wish you the best.
EVERYONE ELSE, I think the best thing we can do is to stop posting in this thread. I'm afraid that even those of you trying to have a proper discussion are doing more harm than good as the information you're providing is definitely being misinterpreted and/or triggering overall negative behavioral patterns.19 -
ashleygroizard wrote: »Has anyone heard of set point theory? It Is a set point weight. When you get enough nutrients for your body and you don’t starve and don’t over eat and drink water and your body goes to a normal healthy weight and maintains that weight for the rest of your life. I’m learning about it with my therapist. I also googled set point theory and apparently it’s the fat loss no one talks about
I had that up until the age of about 24. My weight was super stable. I didn't even know my weight, because why would I, my weight never changed. If I overate such as a birthday or Christmas, I lost weight without noticing.
Unfortunately as aging and illness happened, that hormonal weight regulation stopped working.
So yes it exists, for some people, at certain ages and in good health.15 -

Honestly it won't make a bit of difference as OP is already posting in multiple threads and has already been given the same advice you've given above numerous times. She will just continue making new threads and people who aren't aware of her post history will keep enabling her unintentionally.12 -

Yeah, I saw that... 2 min after my post - POP another thread... Well, at least I tried.14 -

proof right here that you can't trust the advice of someone who calls themselves a "registered dietitian"!16 -

I've read about set point theory in two different binge eating disorder recovery books written by authors that have helped hundreds of people using this concept.2 -

I may have not explained set point theory properly. I have a binge symptom in my borderline personality disorder. So did the hundreds of people get thin and a healthy bmi or did they stay overweight?1
