Help! Lower back inflammation after barre class

I recently started working out after about 8 months and decided to join a local barre studio. During the second class, I noticed that my lower back was cracking often during the squats, although I always try not to arch or hunch my back--only push my hips backward.
After class was over, my lower back felt quite strained and since this morning I have been feeling inflammation in the area. This has left me quite scared as to whether I can partake in strength training going forward-I have never had an injury like this before. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Ice it today or alternate ice and heat 1-2 days. Then heat. If it doesn’t get better see a doctor.
I don’t know what you mean by cracking, but might be because you are tight starting out a d should be a little gentler for the first few weeks.
Also I suggest talking to your instructor.

I used to do barre and found that I would tweak my back quite a bit (something about the positioning of exercise in relation to the barre aggravated my lower back.) I switched to Pilates reformer 6 years ago and have not been back to barre since! If you are committed to sticking with barre, definitely talk to an instructor and ask them to assist you with proper body positioning so that you are not straining your back.

A friend and I tried barre a couple of years ago, we had been doing cardio and weight lifting and thought we would try something different for a change. Both of us had lower back pain for several days after and didn't do the class again. Worth mentioning, the instructor is very form centric and was constantly observing and helping to correct as the class went on. Neither of us had form issues but something about the movements caused issues.
