Terrorising Gelatissimo

I read the OP the same way you did, and that the "terrorizing" was tongue-in-cheek based on the odd reaction from the server at being asked to put less in the cup.
It can be hard to ascertain tone in a written post, true. But OP's overly-dramatic language ("internal gibbering", "watch in horror", etc.) and her assertion that she "just had to share" does make it seem as if she's somehow proud of herself for prevailing upon a clearly-distressed server to get what she wanted.
To the OP - next time, maybe get a small cup to share with your husband and just have the couple of bites you want, rather than causing a scene?
I didn't read that as "I'm proud that I upset someone,"
I totally did. I thought that was the point of OP posting and am rather shocked it's OK with TPTB.
Maybe your version isn't the moderators' version of the post.
(Sorry, huge pet peeve of mine. Just because a person sees something one way doesn't mean it's actually that way.)6 -

I didn't read that as "I'm proud that I upset someone," I read it as "I need to share this story of how my adventures in portion control led to drama at the gelato store, please enjoy my humorous embellishment."
I'm still not clear on why people think she was distressing this worker. She asked if they could make it full to the rim, her husband clarified with the worker that yes, that is what she wants, and they were told that it was no problem to do that. I'm not sure how people can honestly think she was seriously terrorizing this worker or that the worker was scared for her job when they said yes, they can do that, no problem. It's not like she waited until they made the normal portion and started yelling at them to make it smaller. It sounds like she made a completely reasonable request in a completely reasonable way.
From the OP:
"She's starting to freak out."
"The server was really weirded out, I don't know if they get told off for not filling those cups high enough but she was really uncomfortable with it."
Having said that, I suspect the OP was over-dramatizing for humor's sake, but perhaps enough of us have worked in-person customer service and have lived through situations where we were mistreated by customers so the humor is lost. I can't really connect with OP's situation anyway as I let front-facing employees like that do what they are required to do and just eat however much I've decided to, but that's neither here nor there. Hopefully all parties have fully recovered from "the case of the not-quite-right gelato".
I think we all have to accept that when we are out we lose some control over our calories and that trying to force it too much may come across as unreasonable to the people preparing our food. The person preparing the treat must have had a negative reaction to the experience for this thread to even exist but I do agree the OP probably embellished the story for humor.

Then again, to play the devil's advocate here, "Freak out" to the OP may simply be an expression meaning nothing more than exasperated. We'll likely never know.
All that said, I now want a cup of gelato, or a chocolate fix. That would be good too...

Another pet peeve. COME BACK, OP!!!!
The gelato in the pics looked good but I've never tried it mostly because it's more calorific(?) than what I normally eat and I like to shave calories off where I can.6 -
The rare times I go to McDonalds I get a Happy Meal because you can get a mini fry which are only about 120 cals in those, more often than not they still give me a small fry. I give half my fries to hubby and just move on, no point terrorizing the poor employees.1

I've never tried gelato, but those pics and my weak will towards desserts lol...things may not be looking good for my daily allowance sometime soon lol. It's usually Halo top, or once a month small sundae, extra hot fudge mind you..but gelato just sounds tasty, ya know?

Gelato tends to have less air whipped into it than a typical American ice cream, it's a bit denser. So it comes off as richer, pretty similar to a "premium" ice cream, and is similar calories to premium ice cream. The Talenti gelatos average to about 200 cals per serving (which is a typical half cup). For me, the draw of ice cream/gelato/etc is the texture and richness, so it's totally worth making room for some Talenti or Haagen Dazs every once and awhile
Plus it's Italiano, so mangia!3 -

Not going to weigh in on wether I think the OP abused a service worker or was embellishing for humor.
I do want to give my own experience with eating out on a calorie budget while interacting with service workers though. One of the tricks my husband and I love to use is splitting a main dish, desert, and occasionally if the situation allows a starter. I also only order a drink if my favorite diet soda is available which is actually pretty rare at sit down restaurants, otherwise I always stick to water. DH is similar in that he’ll only get a drink occasionally. I always worry that the servers assume we do it that way to cut costs, and if we then have a server who is worried that we’ll be stingy with our tip and doesn’t want to put as much effort in. We aren’t all that worried about costs. I just don’t need a 10oz steak, when 5oz is enough to curb my craving, and splitting that cheesecake at the end is always worth it, and not something we would get if we both order our own thing. We actually usually end up spending about the same amount anyway and we get to try more stuff. But still I worry that the server feels stiffed, so we usually tip generously.
So far it hasn’t been a problem, and often if you have the kitchen plate the one serving on two plates before bringing it out, they’ll often almost always give you more of the side as long as it’s a vegetable.

Seems to me the moral here is don’t try to be funny on MFP because it never goes well.
Logic dictates that no server could be seriously traumatized by a customer asking for a small serving. Therefore, the post is obviously exaggerating for effect. If you live in a world where you have to worry about servers flinging themselves off tall buildings in despair because you made an unusual order, I feel for you.17 -

Depends on whether said customer was really asking or "asking"/actually being really nasty. Customer service in general can be pretty awful, but people seem to get especially nasty when it comes to food. And those customers tend not to see themselves as being the problem.

Perhaps it could happen in a world where people can be traumatized by a post about a server being traumatized . . . ? (Not that I believe any such world exists, of course. )
Just to be clear: Like I said before, I don't know what really happened. (Even OP doesn't really know; she was only one of the affected parties.)
This I know, or at least firmly believe: Customers should be routinely polite to customer service personnel, unless said service person really, really clearly and unmistakeably starts something (calls the customer crude names, say). The high road is the best revenge, in my book: Be above the fray, not a contributor to it. That goes for the service personnel, too: They should be routinely polite. And I say that as someone who has worked in a help desk, and in a food service setting, so I know it isn't always easy.
Some customers (and co-workers, and other kinds of people) are truly terrible to others, especially to others to whom they feel superior in some way. So, servers, secretaries, people of minority religions/ethnicities, etc., are more likely to to be mistreated.
It is OK to ask customer service people, politely, for something unusual but not unreasonable (like a smaller than usual gelato). It is not OK to browbeat said service person about it. I still don't know which of those things happened. Not gonna know, don't care, really. I thought OP was joking. That doesn't mean I think it's OK, or funny, to mistreat servers.9 -

Frozen custard is similar. You can usually expect 225-250 calories per 1/2 cup serving.0 -

Or maybe the moral of the story is that you should not troll a server and then turn around and troll MFP. There was no need to go to any real lengths to get a smaller serving other than attention seeking. I am proud of myself for increased portion control and the resulting weight loss but I don't feel the need to call a lot of attention to myself irl or even here over it. There are times it looks like I am being super disciplined and people ask if that is my secret and I always tell them they should see all the other stuff I eat.6
