Skyla IUD. Increased appetite...

I had the skyla previously, and I had it for about 6 months. About two months in, I began to exercise and work out and I lost a good amount of weight.

I took the skyla out because I was spotting non stop.

Once I got it out, my appetite was huge. I had a lot of cravings. Like a hormonal imbalance. I gained 18lbs.

I recently decided to get the iud back, hoping this would help with weight loss. It backfired I think.

It stopped cravings, but now I am always hungry. ALWAYS. If I eat, I still get hungry.

My question to ladies with the iud, does the increase in appetite go away? I would like to believe it does since I had success with it last time... I just need some support because I’m back in the 200s, and it’s hitting my self esteem really badly.

TIA. ❤️

I have the old skool copper IUD. no side effects whatsoever as there is no hormone in it, however, the bleeding is heavier than what normally I'd bleed. That's the only bad thing about it. Otherwise, for me, no hormones = awesome.

Same here, although now 4 years in it's lighter than it was, I still get PMS cravings but just eat maintenance for a couple of days.

Maybe discuss your options with your GP/OB ir try changing up your macros/volume of food.

I had Mirena for almost 3 years and never experienced any hunger increase. I actually got to my lowest adult weight with it. It ended up going through my uterus and into my abdomen just before the 3yr mark (the pain was horrible). I had to have it surgically removed. Other than that though I loved it. My doctor has asked if I want another one put in. He said what happened to me is not typical (and from what I read online it really isn’t common for it to be in place for a couple years and then perforate the uterus) and it’s unlikely to happen again. The memory of the pain though has me trying other methods.

I am trying Nexplanon now. So far no increased hunger. However I also haven’t had a period since it was put in back in Feb.

Another Mirena user here, on my second one. I personally haven't had any changes in my hunger levels - what did change (not due to the IUD) was my TDEE (desk job, more "professional" lifestyle), and my hunger levels are still in line with what I USED to need, not what I have needed the past 7-ish years.

Getting the right foods makes a huge difference in my satiety, and I've tried a few different eating plans depending on the time of the year, my living situation, etc, but what it all really boils down to is that my hunger and my needs aren't in line with each other, but it's not a result of the IUD, just lifestyle changes for me. When I sat down and really thought about my daily activity then vs now, it was pretty easy to determine the real culprit.
