KNEES! Ouch!

Options
Bad knees run in my family (no pun intended).

I've never ever ever had problems with mine- until I decided to start exercises. The last few nights my knees have been bothering me.

Any suggestions? (Besides the frozen veggies I have on them for 15 minutes a few times in the evening.)

Thank you! I'm running too. I'll give them a few days to get their act together :)

Be careful! Knee issues can really be a pain! Make sure you are using the proper form and look up leg exercises to help prevent knee injury like this:

Also rest as was previously mentioned and you might want to get a knee brace.

Thanks! :) I'll try these and also look into a brace

Couple things. Always give yourself a recovery day after your run or work out, so day off in between runs. It has kept me running injury free. Secondly, ice bath after run helps.

When you say day of rest- is it just from running or any kind of (lower body of course) exercise?

Thanks for this thread! A couple of days ago, my knees were burning after I'd lifted 20kgs doing squats. I need to work on my form and rest a bit!

The other thing you may want to consider is strengthening core, glutes & hips. It's not unusual for weaknesses or imbalances to manifest themselves as knee pain.

Check out some of the videos on youtube or runnersworld.com such as:

Bad knees run in my family too.

I like to take a recovery day in between long runs/cardio that is high impact. On those recovery days, I still get my heart rate up by doing leg lifts and slow paced walking. The best thing to do is swimming!

I have been swimming laps everyday! Maybe I'll up my laps on "recovery days" from running.

    Thanks for the idea!

I mean rest from running. You can do other exercises if you want.
