All weight loss is about a calorie deficit. Personally, I like carbs so I lose weight while eating those.46

CICO is amazing. Glad whatever you are doing is working for you, though.31 -
Umm...ok. Not amazed if you have a deficit...keto is one way to do it - although it takes very little chocolate to reach your carb limit....20

You can eat those things, and also eat carbs, and still lose weight. I've lost over 30 pounds eating carbs... and pizza and burgers and wings and all these other things I enjoy. In moderation and not as frequently as I was when I wasn't losing weight, but I can still enjoy them and fit them in.
If Keto helps you control your appetite, then that is great. However it doesn't have any special weight loss powers. Losing weight is all about a calorie deficit.26 -

You’re losing weight because you are in a calorie deficit. You can eat literally anything and lose weight as long as you’re in a calorie deficit.18

About to say the same thing. I thought chocolate was a no no on keto.4 -
I'm just wondering how chocolate is keto? It would seem to me that more than the tiniest amount of chocolate would eat up your carb limit.3

I occasionally incorporate 100% cacao in my Keto diet. The chocolate itself isn't terribly high carb, it's the sugar that generally puts most "chocolate candy" into the no-for-Keto category.3 -

Glad it’s working for you. Keto isn’t popular on these MFP streets so, just a heads up lol.28 -

That must be quite bitter...I don't think I'd call it chocolate either.9 -

I think keto is quite popular here. It's the "eat as much as you want and lose weight" that's commonly pushed that's not so popular.26 -

Keto isn't unpopular, only claims that it's necessary or superior.
Glad you are enjoying it, OP. I'm a fan of Chocolove 88%, which has 6 g net carbs in a serving (180 cal, 1/3 of a big bar). I suppose that would be something that one could fit in on keto regularly. I tried keto and liked it okay, but for me there were no major positives and I felt frustrated trying to get in all the veg I like to eat and missed fruit and legumes. But I can totally see why it could feel indulgent and enjoyable, especially if one saw other forms of dieting as deprivation (you can eat chocolate and kebabs on other plans too, of course, but I think you are doing well to find a way of eating you like).22 -
I'm glad you found a way of eating that puts you in a calorie deficit without feeling like you would be deprived. I would feel deprived on keto, so it doesn't work for me, but there are many different ways of eating that work for weight loss, so no one way is the right way. People only get frustrated at keto because some think it has magical properties that would allow you to lose weight while not being in a deficit, but it doesn't. It just feels that way because it's a way of eating that satisfies you while allowing you to be in a deficit.16

Folk can knock keto all they want.some just don't like it when something other than CICO works, I can have bacon, fried eggs etc etc loads of mince with spices and chicken and veg a plenty ...no weighing etc and still the weight comes off you and you get thinner .its magic53

It is absolutely chocolate, it just isn't "chocolate candy". It is definitely an acquired taste, but I actually quite enjoy it. Once I eliminated most sugar from my diet, it seems as though everything has become sweeter. I will occasionally melt the chocolate down and then cut with some coconut oil and some stevia if I feel like I need something more candy-like, but I don't do that often. One of my favorite Keto sweet-treats is chocolate covered strawberries. I use the 100% cacao and the strawberries in and of themselves have enough sweetness for it all. And generally just 1 or 2 large strawberries does the trick for me.7 -

That loss was water weight as your glycogen became depleated. CICO is not a diet, it is the process your body does. I think you mean you were not losing weight doing calorie counting.
CICO is not calorie counting. CICO is what happens behind the scenes on any diet (bulking or cutting).25 -

nothing wrong with it... people on MFP are fine with Keto.. what isn't popular is saying diet x y or z is causing weight loss. what causes weight loss, other than water weight, is a deficit. some people do that with Keto, or IF, or WW, or counting calories. So if the diet helps you be in a deficit, great for you, but that doesn't mean others can be satisfied, or that it is the Keto causing the weight loss.17 -

If you're losing weight via keto you ARE losing weight through CICO, which is simply an energy balance equation. Perhaps you are confusing CICO with calorie counting?

The bolded is why some ketoers gets pushback here. Its not magic. For people who are satiated by the higher fat, keto is a way to stay in a deficit without necessarily counting calories. And often people who succeed on keto feel like they are eating more calories because the fat makes them feel so full. They're still in a deficit, it's just effortless for them.
It's awesome you found a way that works for you! I'm not at all satiated by fat and I always feel sluggish when I eat a lot of meat, cheese, or eggs so it wouldn't work for me at all. I eat @ 50% carbs, that really seems to be the sweet spot for me. Different strategies work for different people, as we are all satiated by different foods and have different cultural influences, food availability, and emotional relationships with food and eating habits.
It's a great feeling when you finally find something that helps everything fall in place for you I lost the weight a couple of years ago and have been easily maintaining since, so I know the feeling!29 -

If you're losing weight on keto, it's because CICO. Some folks just don't like it when people mislead other people who are trying to learn.24 -
It's a good way of eating imho , I never get cravings and I'm rarely hungry.
Been a fantastic find for me.ive no idea how many calories I'm eating in truth, the scales and body shape tell me it's working.but I respect anything that works for others15 -
I would definitely recommend keto even if you are an vegetarian like me24

No, it's not magic. Initially you may experience a sizeable water weight drop. After that, any weight you lose would only occur if you're also in a calorie deficit. Regardless of what you're eating.14 -

Nobody is really knocking keto. It's a fine way to eat. But there is absolutely nothing (zero.zip.nada) magic about weight loss. It's all about energy balance and nothing more. It can't be anything else. The typical measurement used for energy is the kcal (commonly referred to as the calorie). When energy in > energy out, then your body stores the excess in the form of fat (and muscle if you are adding stress). When energy in < energy out, your body burns food you eat and then burns the energy stored in the form of fat (and some muscle when there is not enough fat to metabolize during a given window of demand).
By the way my weight loss was "kick-started", just by virtue of "starting". Lost a fair amount of water weight early. No magic. Just energy balance.15
