Good regimens for progressive stretching for a novice?

I'm not a huge yoga person, not because I dislike yoga, but I just don't like classes like that.

I've been losing weight successfully, I've been getting stronger and building muscle successfully, and I do partake in some stretching, but not for physical dexterity. I think it might be smart to work some stretching in as I think some extra flexibility would probably improve my life.

I am... Not flexible. I can't touch my toes without bending my knees. Hamstrings are tight, in general I'm probably not so limber. Probably a side effect of being tall as well.

Does anyone have a stretching program to suggest that I could see marked progress over time? That I could do on my own at my own pace daily?

I don't know what my goals would be other than overall flexibility and maybe balance. It would be nice to be able to touch my toes, do a deeper squat, do the splits, freestanding headstand and whatever, but I don't really have a defined goal other than better overall flexibility.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hey, fellow ‘can’t touch my toes’ person here. However, I watched a super interesting YouTube video that promised it could make you touch your toes, and I followed it and indeed I was able to! It’s amazing. I think the gist was that it’s our brains telling our bodies not to fold over to prevent injury but you can override it. I don’t recall the exact details but I think it involves standing on a book of something? In any case, if you’re interested I’m sure you’ll find it with a quick google or search of YouTube.

That's really cool! It would make sense if you put your heels on the book as that would shorten your hamstrings.

I think I found some good regimens on YouTube. I'm surprised there's no well written plans like there are for weight training.
