Hi there,

I'm looking to invest in a recumbent exercise bike but I'm having a little trouble finding one that suits my needs. Basically I'm looking for a bike that can take 150kg/330lbs (this seems to be the sturdiest basic bike without going into the type of equipment you see at the gyym). The weight capacity can go down to 143kg/314lbs but beyond that I will crushinate it. The other restriction in my search is cost. Whilst there seem to be plenty of upright exercise bikes that take this weight and cost from £200 ($310) the recumbent bikes seem much more expensive if you're on the heavier side. I'd ideally hope to spent around £300 ($365) but for a decent machine could probably double the budget. If anyone has any insight into this kind of situation I'd really appreciate any help at all you can offer!

Thanks very much everyone :D

I got my recumbent bike used on Craigslist and it held up fine when my then-husband used it. Is that viable in your location??

Also, I have seen gym equipment stores sell refurbished models of various equipment - perhaps you could find one close to your budget that way.

Unfortunately I live in the UK, otherwise I think Craigslist would be a great idea! I'd be a bit worried to use ebay for something that costs so much. I did go to my local fitness store and they didn't do these refurbished models but I'll definitely have a search for one not to far away! Thanks very much :)

Gumtree? Mostly you can go and 'visit' the stuff before handing over cash.
