Is a calorie deficit really healthy? Macrostax?

So I am getting back into logging and on the healthy bandwagon (man is it hard to get going again when you fall off!).

My question is calorie deficit. Is it the way to go? Macrostax showed up on my Facebook feed and they go by high protein, high carb, low fats but it seems like an insane amount of food.

Does anyone actually use Macrostax? Or do you prefer the way MFP calculates?

Sorry if this is confusing.. I’m having a hard time phrasing my question!

Calorie deficit is a lot healthier than being overweight or obese, in my opinion. And to add to what others are saying, ANY other program for weight loss IS calorie deficit. Whether you're tracking calories or not, you will not lose weight unless you are in a deficit.

I eat higher carb and protein because that's what is the most satisfying to me and keeps me most compliant to my calorie deficit.

There is nothing unhealthy about a reasonable calorie deficit if your stats and medical needs indicate that weight loss is safe for you.

A deficit can be unhealthy if it is so aggressive that it leads to undereating, or if you are already near or below the low end of your optimal BMI range, or if you have medical conditions that would make a calorie deficit unsafe for you.

You cannot lose weight without being in a calorie deficit.

I was very keen to try the "Martini Diet" once - the guaranteed a total weight loss (due to liver cirrhosis) within 6 month! And they allowed you 3 green olives a day! What could go wrong ?!?

In all seriousness I was tempted by the Guinness diet once. But then I watched a show where the guy did it for a week and by day 7 he was pale as a ghost and radiating misery.

Kinda turned me off the idea.
