Hi!!
My Goal for June is to Break 200, I am at 209 now. Getting to 195 would be AMAZING!9 -
Husband is away this week. I must remember to eat dinner. I forget when I'm alone, or get too lazy and just eat bread.
I've been losing an average of 2.5 lbs per week, which is great (at my size, anyway) but I don't want to get too extreme and get sick.
At least with my stomach thing better my water retention is more normal. For a while the scale was swinging upwards of 15 pounds back and forth. Madness.
I have 6 more pounds to go to reach June's goal.7 -
RavenStCloud wrote: »So this week for me hasn't been great because I've been snacking the house down. And on Friday, at the gym, I pulled a muscle in my back and had to go to the doctor's it hurt so badly. I've been in bed for 3 days straight and am on lots of meds. And next week, I'm not allowed to exercise at all. So I've really got to my food and snacking under control.
Last week's results:
Log all food = 7/7
Stay under calorie limit = 2/5
30 mins of cardio = 2/3
Strength train = 2/2
Wish me luck.
I must be the week for snacking. I have had a rough start. A few extra midnight shifts, and I just want to eat all the time. Rest and heal!
Good luck!5 -
Finished my eating for today. It's scary when you see how much sodium and sugar are in foods you would never think had any. I am trying to eliminate as much sodium as I possibly can. Not as concerned about sugar, though I should be. I am so very sick of having elephant feet!4
-
Sodium is the worst! I just don’t get why it’s in so much stuff. We really try to avoid processed food so we can decrease our sodium. Water retention I can deal with; what it does to my blood pressure is another story!1

The last few months I have lost myself. The month of May was really bad. I'm trying to get back on track for June, eating healthier and exercise. I am also going to try to be more active in group.
Due to a mini vacation of 3.5 days and eating junk I gained weight this week. I was behind to start, now I just put myself further behind. Time to get my butt in gear!!

I saw my doctor yesterday for some strange feeling in the right side of my neck which I thought might be a somewhat swollen lymph node. Everything was good and it seems it may just be stress related. I made an appointment with the chiropractor for Friday, as my back is still hurting.
However, at the doctor, I brought up phentermine with him, as my husband is taking it and asked about it. I told him I had maintained since roughly November and am counting calories to lose weight and have lost ~40 on my own. He thought I should still take phentermine and told me that at 1600 calories I'm eating too much and should take it back to 1400. He said for my height, 1600 should be maintenance. I told him I've been eating at 1600 and losing on it and was losing when I was eating higher calories and heavier before.
I thought that was a little strange he told me to cut back so much. I did try at 1400 before for 2 pounds a week but was very hungry all the time and dialed it back to 1.5 pounds a week, which brought me to 1600. I looked up reviews of those who were on phentermine and some of the side affects and experiences were a little frightening. He wants to see me back in a month and wants to see any weight loss, not a specific number.
I'm just getting a strange feeling about the whole thing and am tempted to just keep doing what I'm doing and not take the pills. I'd still go back in a month for a checkup but only with the losses from counting calories and starting at the gym.
Has anyone else here been on phentermine? It's been working for my husband, yes, but he didn't do well with counting calories before and just eats whatever he wants, in very large amounts. He's had some side effects from it that I won't delve into but if anyone else has been on it, can you advise of how you felt on it and if you experienced any side effects?1 -

You know how your body works better than anyone. If 1600 calories makes sense for you, you're not starving, AND you're still losing weight then in my (non medical) opinion, you should stay the course. That certainly seems healthier than a drug that can have bad side effects that you'll eventually have to stop anyway. Any doctor that's pushing you on a drug you don't seem to need seems a little shady to me.
I would recommend finding a registered dietician (not a nutritionist). She can help you better figure out calories and can give you tips and tricks and overall positive reinforcement (at least that's what mine does). Most RD also have the body composition scales that take into account not only your body fat, but also muscle mass, water, and bone, etc. That way they can give you a more accurate count of calories you should be consuming.
Good luck, whatever you decide!5 -
Today has been an object lesson in why food prep is important. Oh, yeah, and that whole getting enough to eat thing.
I’m working toward a plant based, whole food approach to meals for the family and fitness training of some kind daily. Was doing well but used up the last of our fresh veg this morning. B/t breakfast at 5:00 am and dinner at 4:30pm, I didn’t have much beyond an apple and a protein bar.
I’m still only slightly over caloric range for the day and have finally stopped imitating a snail, (or maybe a sloth?) but only after bingeing at dinner. And for the first time all week, I’ve not done any strength training—not even squats.
And this, classmates, is why you keep foods stocked and prep meals in advance. Heigh ho, I’ll do better tomorrow. I’ll consider today a win if I catch up on the house without imitating a narcoleptic Argentinian.5 -
Sw 337
Cw 333
Mini goal 323
Gw 175
Hight 5'6"
Just getting back into trying to get healthy. I am starting a whole natural food way of eating so my goals will mostly be about sticking to that and making meal prep a priority. I always make dinner and everything so it's not a huge change except I am not able to use a lot of my standard recipes. Doing a lot of research on paleo as it has lots of fresh whole foods.
Goals this month
Track everything for 30 days
Work out 3x weekly
Eat unprocessed food only
I'm also hoping to lose 10 lbs by July8 -

I’m doing 1600 calories, low carb, low fat. I exercise nightly. I’ve lost 34 pounds since I switched to this. It was recommended by a dietician.4 -

I'm with everyone else here. If what you're doing is working, and you don't feel hungry at the end of the day, then keep with that. He said he wanted to see any sort of weight loss by you're next visit, right? Show him you CAN lose weight thru diet and exercise and not with the aid of pills. Keep it up!4 -
Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to go with my gut on this one and not take the pills but will instead continue doing what I'm doing and next week my husband and I will start at the gym. I'm going to go ahead and get the pills so he sees that I picked them up but won't use them and I'll let him know that at my next appointment. I think maybe he feels that those who are overweight can't do it on their own.
@RavenStCloud How are you feeling today? Any better?2 -

All medications typically have some type of side effect - its a matter if it is more or less beneficial with the side effects, probably only you can decide for that. After I had my auto accident in 2009 my weight spiked and I took the pills, I did not find them particularly effective, and I had heart palpitations. Yes 1600 is closer to maintenance unless you are really active. Dial it down a little at a time, if you are doing 1600 then do 1500 for a month - and go from there. What it means is that your calories need to matter more. No soda's, empty calories. What you eat matters. I'm at 1100 each day, I'm in my mid 40's, 5'6, do water xercise mostly and I had a surgery in April, with now added hormones of an IUD (which I didn't want but ws medically necessary), my loss has stalled, or very tiny movement downwards, but I can't really dip more than 1100.1 -
@ColoradoLivingg Yeah, doing okay. This is day 5 and my back is slowly feeling better. I carried a hamper full of dirty clothes down the stairs today, so progress! Thanks for asking.
Also, just be wary of a doctor you need to pretend with or who might have a weight bias. I hurt my knee really badly a couple of years ago and went to my regular doctor. He told me I was "just fat" and needed to lose weight. I was in pain for a couple weeks before I decided to go to a new doctor (who was a woman). Within about three minutes, she discovered I had a torn miniscus and set me up with physical therapy and tools to help. So just be aware that even nice doctors can sometimes be prejudiced without realizing.6 -
