I’m currently 170lbs and my goal is 135lbs. What is a reasonable amount to lose a week 1lb or 2lbs?

1lb is reasonable and realistic. Gradually ease yourself into it. 2lbs is more than doable once you've found your groove.11

No, you should only do 2 lb wk if you have more than 75 to lose.11 -

Exactly!!!
Your rate of loss you should aim for is determined by the amount of weight you have to lose and has nothing to do with how proficient you are at dieting.
Granted achieving that appropriate rate of loss will get easier with experience.0 -

How did you come to this terrible conclusion? Do you understand that creating a 1000 calorie deficit that close to goal could actually be quite difficult for the OP?

Keywords "2lbs is more than doable once you've found your groove"
Eating 1,500 cal a day and burning off 500 Cal day will not kill you... Humans would of went extinct many years ago if that was the case.
Losing 8lbs in a month may be a struggle for you but don't pass your struggles on to others.

Being a young man and therefore never actually having to do that makes it very easy for you to say.
It is recommended to lose at the absolute most 1% of your body weight per week, in order to avoid losing a lot of muscle mass as you lose fat. And since it's quite difficult for women to build muscle, protecting the lean mass you already have is a priority.
I personally aim for better health and energy than "barely survived extinction", there is a difference between "you'll survive this" and "this is the best way to go".
OP, 1.5 lbs would be the absolute highest you should go, and I'd recommend 1 lb per week. You want to pick a plan that will work, but also one you will not be miserable during. Better to go a little slower, and learn as you go how to eat for the rest of your life, than to rush through and reach the finish line hangry and unsure what to do next. Speaking from experience
Good luck!8 -

Pointing and repeating the incorrect information doesn't somehow automatically make it not incorrect.
To achieve a 2lb/week loss requires a calorie deficit of 7000cal/week or approx 1000cal/day. This is achievable only if you have significant weight to lose as your maintenance would be so high that a 1000cal/day deficit won't take you down into a dangerous, unhealthy and frankly unattainable calorie intake.
IE:
6', 300lb, 35yo man has approx 2800cal/day maintenance. Reduce that by 1000cal/day to achieve 2lb/week and he's still consuming a safe and healthy 1800cal/day
5'4", 155lb 35yo woman has approx 1600cal/day maintenance. Reduce that by 1000cal/day to achieve 2lb/week and she'll be consuming a ridiculously low 600cal/day and yes, can quite literally kill you.
I don't care how deep or good your 'groove' is that's just terrible advice. Appropriate rate of loss is dictated primarily by the appropriate deficit which is dictated primarily by how much weight the person has too lose.
It's not about others 'passing on their struggles' and about people 'passing on their incorrect, dangerous, ill informed and potentially harmful advice'.11 -

Not to nitpick too much; but, even your 300lb example is creating an unhealthy 35.71% deficit, and would be much better off to keep that deficit to 25% or less even when obese (and 20% or less when overweight/normal weight)1 -

Point taken. Really just using trying to illustrate the point that safely achieving a 2lb per week loss is a factor of weight to be lost rather than how good you are at exercise/nutrition.3 -

It is *not* a struggle for me but then I am still far enough away from my goal that my TDEE easily supports 2 pounds a week. I have different stats than the OP which is something you should have considered before making your claim.
Eating 1500 calories per day and burning off 500 of them means you are malnourished. This can cause serious health problems over time.
How did you determine how many calories early humans ate? You should not be trying to make up facts to support your ill-advised suggestion.5
