Don't get rid of all your sugar just try to stay within that range. Sugar will definitely sneak up on you. My brother in law went on a fruit diet and was losing weight. 3 weeks into it he was rushed to the hospital with a blood sugar level of 700. He almost went into a diabetic coma. He is diabetic now. I don't want to scare you but ignoring sugar is bad advice. I don't know why ritchie is promoting unhealthy practices.
I suspect your brother in law was already diabetic or had another major (undiagnosed) medical issue.

That said: I track sugar, but only added sugar, not the sugar in fruits.

well unless the calories on the tracker thing are wrong i really do eat under 1200!

Also have to make sure you are counting correctly (you won't like to hear that) but lots of people forget to count things they don't realise, etc, sauces, drinks (obviously ones containing calories), all sorts of stuff people don't count.

    Regardless...

1200 or below, not good, you can eat more, I assure you..

Can you give me your weight, height, age, please?

I'll see roughly what you should be eating.

    TDEE: 1894

    -15% Deficit

    1610 calories
113g protein (0.82g per bodyweight lbs)
55g fat (0.4g per bodyweight lbs)
    165g carbs

    -20% deficit
    1515 calories
113g protein (0.82g per bodyweight lbs)
55g fat (0.4g per bodyweight lbs)
    141g carbs

you could do either, you'd still lose weight. especially if you're running 6x a week.

You are going to develop other problems besides being over weight if you keep this up. It's amazing how many people come on here that are overweight and claim they can't eat 1200 because they are not hungry. It's all a mind game. We sure were hungry when we got fat.

How tall are and how much do you actually currently weigh?

    i'm 5"4 and 138lbs

I was thinkin' the same thing. I ate a banana & it pushed me over the limit. Booooooooooooooooooo! LMHO!!!
  • Honestly this depends on your body. My body reacts badly to sugar by bloating and causing mad cravings because I am a sugar lover. With knowing this I cut as much sugar as I can in the form of crap foods and generally my only sugar intake is from fruits and the extra natural sugars that one cannot do anything about no matter what they do. But our goals are different as well because my goal is a IFBB bikini comp body whereas it sounds like yours is to be thin and healthy.

I get how frustrating red numbers are! I love eggs and am watching my cholesterol (mine is high, partly from heredity but also due to my former fast food loving self) and because I eat so many eggs in my day it doesn't take but 1 damn egg to make my cholesterol limit red. After tracking it for a month and seeing that generally my cholesterol intake was just fine I took it off my tracking and just focused on calories, protein, sugar, sodium, and carbs. Unfortunately MFP is not sophisticated enough to understand the difference between good cholesterol from eggs and bad cholesterol from other sources just like it is not sophisticated enough to recognize the difference between the sugars in fruits verses the sugar in bad foods or the good fats verses the bad fats.

With your goals I would may the most attention to calories, proteins, fiber and sodium. Also make sure that you are taking in enough filling and fibrous foods to fuel your body from workouts. Eat a diet rich in veggies of all colors, green leafy salads, whole grain sources, beans, lean meats, and lastly fruits.

Some people. You ate more sugar (primarily added sugar) for breakfast than I eat in a day. And I eat about 300 calories for breakfast. But then, I'm a 48 year old woman who's not bulking.

What you've just said isn't really relevant to anything though is it? :p lol

Edit: and when I cut I still get about 60-150g of sugar a day

Wow. Rude much? My post is more relevant than your 1400 calorie breakfast is to the small woman trying to lose a few pounds.
  • It really only counts when it's not natural sugars. So the sugars from fruits and veggies especially really don't count, your brain uses those right away! Your brain needs those. I always up my sugar limit to 50-100.

How is it so? Perceive what you want to be rude, but god, if you get offended by that I don't know.. lol.

She can see a lot of caloric dense foods (which is what she needs due to her appetite) in my diary. There is much relevance.

It doesn't matter what sugar it is.
