The Gratefulness Lens

My yoga instructor gave her three year old a magnifying glass, and talked about how excited he was to look at everything (especially ants). She said it occurred to her, “What if you could look at life through a lens of gratefulness and find three things a day to be grateful for?”

I’ve thought about that a lot since she said it.

So let’s do it.

My obvious ones are husband, family and home.

Today, I am grateful for:

1.) The wonder that is my body. I forget sometimes what a miracle it all is. Even when it’s overweight, bloated, or in pain, it remains a perfect work of art. Not a churchgoer, but surely there is a master hand in everything, especially this.

2.) The two little critters that keep me company on every morning stretch. They are as grateful for the enforced pet-pets as I am for their company. They don’t care what I look or smell like, that I haven’t brushed my teeth yet, or if I can’t get my squats in, as long as I have two hands to pet them during hip circles and floor stretches. It’s our quality time.

3.) Banana smoothies. A morning smoothie makes my whole day. I have bounced out of bed for months now with sheer anticipation.

I’m grateful for my family, home and health.
Grateful that I worked for a wonderful family that shared their wealth with their employees through very generous yearly bonuses and contributions to our 401k’s. It helped me to be able to retire last year and to purchase new, badly needed, windows and siding. And I am grateful to MFP for helping me become healthier so I am able to enjoy my retirement.
Ps I’m grateful for my best walking buddy, my dog, who is getting old too.

    1) My cat. I honestly don't feel like I deserve how much love he gives me, but I try my best to love him back just as much. If I'm feeling down, he immediately comes over and puts his head on my chest and purrs his little heart out.

    2) My husband. 14 years together, 8 of them married, and he still brightens my whole day just by walking in the room. I'd never get anywhere without his support.

    3) My weighted blanket. My sleep has been much easier and my anxiety really toned down since I got it.
