When life gets busy!

So things are crazy in my world lately! Back to school, local fairs, working 54 hours a week, taking my 1.5 days off to get housework and things done. Ohhh and trying to get my workout in every day! I have noticed lately that I am tired and have stopped doing my morning workouts because I can't get out of bed. I am even struggling to get them done in the evenings. I do the best I can, but really need to find that perfect balance, although I am not sure that is possible. So life gets in the way, I deal with it the best I can for today and that is all I can do! Time to refocus this weekend and get back on track!

I am in the same boat. Just can't seem to get up in the morning. I do get some exercise done during the day, but not my normal workouts. Planning on doing some outdoor stuff this weekend to try to "make up" for my missed workouts during the week.0

Small sustainable changes.
When inspirations strikes people revamp their whole lives. The only problem being is when stress comes along (and it always does), we revert to comfortable familiar behaviors.
Change a couple of small things until they become habit.
Once they are habit, it's automatic, and you don't have to think about it any more.
Then it's time to make another couple of small changes.
Rather than having to think about everything all the time. You only have to think about a 2 or 3 new things.
In the meanwhile your old habits still provide a bit of comfort and security. Down the road your new habits will become your old habits and they will provide a sense of comfort and security.0 -
That is so true. I just kind of needed to vent a little. Sorry....it sometimes help me refocus on what I need to do and what is really important.0

Getting adequate sleep is also an important goal in your weight loss journey. Studies have shown that sleep deprivation results in poor eating habits...you compensate for being tired by eating more. If you are tired, don't feel guilty if you need a few extra zzzz's. Whether you are exercising in the morning or getting a little more shuteye, you are doing something GOOD for your body!0

Agree! I rarely get a "real" workout in...I just shoot for minimum 10,000 steps a day and add a walk if need be. Somedays I feel like there isn't even time for that!0

Always remember this....
I used to always make the excuse that I was just too busy. If you're trying to find time, you never will...time is illusive...there will always be something else to occupy that time...finding time is passive. You have to be proactive and make time. By the by, this is coming from a busy CFO, husband, and father of a 3 year old and 1 year old boy.0 -

Agreed - however I think this is bull.
I feel the same as OP right now, I choose between cleaning my house, spending time with my kids or sleeping. With less than 5 hrs sleep per night as it is.. I just don't have time.
I can't schedule things, I work a 9-5 and have my own (busy) business restaurant and bakery. Id love an hour to myself but it just isnt happening right now0 -

I think that is bull...
Believe me, I know...made this same stupid *kitten* excuse for over a decade until at the ripe old age of 38 I was diagnosed with all sorts of ills due to my inactivity. Suddenly I became very motivated to find the time...you know...to avoid dying and all.
Somehow I manage to work about 12 hours per day...spend time with my wife and play with my kids and still get a kick *kitten* workout it. You know...a really good, kick *kitten* workout can be had in about 30 minutes...the notion that you need to spend hours upon hours in the gym is what I think messes people up...completely unnecessary.
But whatever...keep making excuses and enjoy your success...0 -

KUDOOs to you, Mr. CFO! I am glad you make time for your workouts!
I am an engineer who is going to school for her MBA. I get up at 5:00 every morning to pack my husband's lunch. I have 3 sons. I do all the cleaning and laundry, by choice because I like it done my way. I also do most of the cooking, except on school nights. I plan our menus at the beginning of the week so that my husband knows what to prepare when I have class, and so that I'm not constantly asking myself what I should make for dinner. It also helps with the grocery list.
I go to the gym after work, except on school nights, and this means that we typically eat dinner late. This may not be best, but it is what it is because I know if I go home first, I will not make it there at all. After dinner, I clean up the kitchen, feed my dogs, and make it to bed by 10:00, because I know that at 5 it will all begin again.
I give myself Saturday morning...I really like to spend it walking/sprinting the 7 miles around Salem Lake. If it is raining, I will go to the gym. Of course, I fight the guilty feelings that I get because I should be home cleaning...which is something that I never completely get done. And then there is always homework...which is something else that is never done until the semester comes to an end.
I know single mothers who are understandably stressed and busy because everything falls on their shoulders. I see the efforts they make to get their workouts in. No matter how busy YOU are, someone else has it worse.
Remember...YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!
So KUDOS to all for doing their best to get their workouts in! I salute you!0 -

Nothing wrong with that...meal timing is largely irrelevant. The old don't eat after X 'clock is just an old wives tale. My gym nights are Tues and Thurs so we eat dinner late those nights too...usually around 9PM and the wife and I are usually in bed around 10:00 - 10:30.
On Monday/Wed/Friday I either get up around 4 or 4:30 AM to get my run or cycle in...4 if it's a longer run or cycle and 4:30 if it's a shorter one...I need to be home by 5 AM or so to start helping get the kiddos ready for the day and I have to be on the road by 6:00 for my 1 hour commute to work. Sometimes I forgo my morning routine and just workout at lunch...in that case I eat my actual lunch seated at my desk...but most often just kinda graze for a couple hours before and after my workout. I honestly don't sleep a whole lot...a 1 year old and 3 years old combined with a hectic schedule will do that...but I get enough to get by...would I like more; sure...but something somewhere always has to give and 6-7 hours does me fine.
This is what I call "making" time...it's largely a matter of priority. Just offering up a couple examples of things you can do to make the time...when you really want/need to do it, you make it work, always.0 -

Really buddy?
I work 7 am til 4pm 5 days a week, with a 30-40 minute commute each way. After that I pick up my kids (from three different places might I add).. or I go to my second job, more often the later. On average I get HOME at 9pm, make lunches, do chores ect. so after a 14 hr day and the chores of being a WOMAN Im pretty sure I need some sleep.
So pull your head out of your *kitten* - when I have time, I make time for it for myself - otherwise I prefer to sleep and or shower because I don't get to do those things often enough because I DONT HAVE TIME.0 -

Wow, with two jobs, it sounds like you are a pretty busy young lady! No need to get grumpy, though...I believe he was just trying to give you advice, in his own "tough love" kind of way!
With all that you do, I certainly don't believe you could classify yourself as "sedentary." I have a desk job, so I NEED to exercise. As I've said in my earlier post, SLEEP is also necessary for weight loss, so PLEASE get yours!
You know, being active with your children COUNTS. Dance with them, take them to the park or on a nature walk on the weekend. Life is short...ENJOY THESE YEARS! Children grow up much too quickly. Sometimes chores CAN, and SHOULD, wait. Exercise doesn't need to happen in a gym!
And RELAX! Stress is also unhealthy. :flowerforyou:0 -
You don't HAVE to work out. Just eat less... and try not to stress out too much over it!0
