Anyone tried making Kefir?

I'm going to give this a go http://www.taymount.com/kefir-probiotics.php ; partly cos I have to test some antibiotics soon (I have a terrible time with them but need to find one I can tolerate) & partly cos it looks like a cheap way to make an endless supply of probiotic yoghurty stuff  I've tried making plain yoghurt before - sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't, it was very hit 'n miss, but kefir is supposed to be hardier.

Any pros and cons from those who've tried it?

Cheers!

I have made Kefir in the past and stopped doing so, because I got bored with it, since it's only usable as a drink. I ended up with liters of it in the fridge and it got so acidy that I had to throw it out. Now I would not make it, because I do not want to drink my calories. I prefer masticating them.
Now I have maybe for the last ten years made my own yogurt ( always with the same success ) and find it much more versatile. I eat it plain and as a protein substitute on rice, quinoa, barley, over vegetables etc. With Kefir that is not possible. Also, since I always needed to order the Kefir culture from the US, I decided to stop, because I really can't justify the carbon foot print and the unnecessary cost involved.
I should add that if you use Kefir either way, than it is an excellent idea to make your own, because it is all natural. If you don't know Kefir, you might buy some to try it. It's rather sour and because of that many people don't like it.

I consumed kefir religiously during my college days. For breakfast it's always a cup of golean crunch + half a cup of kefir. I felt it kept me "regular" which it did. But I would get pretty hungry quite soon. I haven't had kefir for years..
