I’m struggling to keep my calories down had a Dr. appointment she wants me to limit 1,800 a day it’s hard to break old habits i need advice for good meal plan? Any suggestions

I started the Keto diet, have you tried it? I feel like I've always had that problem, (exceeding calories) but on Keto the first thing I've experienced is declined appetite. I struggle to eat my goal calories for the day. The Keto diet for me keeps me full all the time and leaves me no desire to eat much. I don't know if it will always be that way. Maybe do some research and see if it's something for you.. Good luck..6

If It Fits Your Macros helped me by giving me more guidelines of numbers to hit. I would also recommend more high volume foods. It's just hard to overeat certain foods by volume.1

What diet habits are you trying to break and why do you think you need to break them?
You've been given a calorie target which I can only assume is an appropriate goal provided by your doctor. How you achieve that goal is largely up to you and your personal preferences. What works for me or others here may not be suitable for you.
So my advice would be to try stuff and see if it works. Different people find different macros 'filling' so try eating higher protein and see if that keeps you satisfied, if not then try higher fats or higher fibre. Some people tend to be naturally hungry at different points of the day so you can try changing your eating pattern so you're eating fewer (or even no calories) at the time of day when you're not really hungry and save those calories up to be consumed at a time of day when you're genuinely hungry.
Don't expect to get this thing spot on right out of the gate. Give yourself some time to learn and get things right.1 -
See a nutitionist/ dietitian- your doc should be able to refer you, so you can get professional advice and meal plans! I have been really interested in just seeing the stats of the food that I log, how much am I really eating. There are a lot of great recipe blogs out there geared toward any diet you might be trying. One of my favorites is SkinnyTaste, and each recipe there is tagged with what type of diet it fits with (low carb, keto, whole 30 etc).0

Eat the foods you like to eat in the portions that fit your 1800 calories. There's no right way to eat, so if you prefer meat and potatoes, you can adjust your methods of preparation so you can still have that. Maybe a baked potato instead of fries, things like that.
The way I learned to do that was to eat the foods I like to eat and log them in the food page here on this site. I adjusted portions so I could stay within calories. Logging them before I ate was the best way to do that.

start with eating foods you currently eat but weight and logging them and slowly reducing portions. and you may want to start working on swaps (regular cola for diet, swapping in some lower calorie options here and there, reducing sauces and oils).
