Frozen veggies always make me laugh. The bag says there's about 4 servings but most times when I way them out it's more like 2. A salad kit will say 4 servings, but weighing it there's usually 6. So crazy!
This! So much this! I've had this with canned veggies too, what do they include, the water? The only way to do it is drain the veg and re-weigh then divide in portions.
I'll admit for the most part I don't panic about a few grams over for veggies. I buy a lot of those steamer bags that usually say 3 servings per package. I weigh out the first portion, and the second and there's almost nothing left in the bag! Really more like 2 1/2 portions per bag1 -

I have never weighed my frozen veg, but this makes me wonder because a bag of frozen steamed broccoli that I buy is 120 calories according to the package. But if I weigh out 120 calories of fresh cut broccoli and steam it it is actually WAY more in volume compared to the steamed frozen.Frozen veggies always make me laugh. Sort of. When steaming veggies they lose volume because of water loss. Fresh or still frozen will both weigh and measure more than cooked. With frozen veggies, I count calories based on the % of the bag I eat (if they are steam-in-the-bag) or I weigh them frozen. I usually get 2 servings per bag of steamables and log each as 1/2 of the whole container in my diary.0 -

the serving size of almonds gives me the sads. 28 almonds? barely a mouthful.
I limit myself to 5-6 almonds at a time. That way I can grab a few here and there during the day, instead of downing them all in one fell swoop. Calories are the same at the end of the day, but I FEEL like I got more than I actually did.2 -

No I know that. I mean for 120 calorie bag of frozen vs 120 calorie fresh. The fresh 120 weighed cooks up to have a lot more volume for the calories. which makes sense if there isn’t the full weight of the frozen (thus the bags are not actually 120 calories and are less) I never weighed because I just eat the whole steamed bag. I didn’t explain well at all lol!1 -
I am always amazed that what I think is a good amount of butter on toast is actually only 3g
Cereals are always disappointing, I could easily eat twice the recommended portion size except I wouldn't be able to fit that into my calories.... so I opt for eggs instead as more filling.2 -

I started using my scale and it’s so helpful. Measuring nuts and lunch meat is what I use it for the most. The saddest thing? Measuring pasta. Sigh. Honestly one 2oz serving is so little, I may as well not bother eating it. Eye opening that I used to consume 4 times that much in a bowl and think it was one!0

exactly! and I prefer to have my calories in other ways, if I went too sore on the butter I'd have to cut out some chocolate - so yeah, preference.3 -

but I DO taste it, any more would make me gag. Butter for me is just there to add a little flavour and 'soften' the toast with minimal cals. Each to their own right1 -

first time i weighted almonds i immediately threw the entire package in the garbage. no joke. automatic reaction to that number :P
years later I now eat almonds as a snack again mid-morning. unsalted, roasted without oil. i eat 16grams. weighed daily. i managed to take 2-3 bites from each nut. and now mind over matter i find that keeps me going just fine til lunch. But it took awhile to get here.
i generally weigh frozen veggies and fruit.1 -
Remember I commented how the PB2 I found out was using so much. I found my new bottles say 2tbp is now higherr in calories and weight... asked the company and they said...
"Good afternoon. The formula for our Original PB2 has not changed at all. What has changed was the serving size. Due to FDA regulations it was changed from 12g to 13g per 2tbp serving. With their rounding rules our calories now rounded up to 60 calories.
"
So basically it confirms that measured 2tbsp was a LOT off from weighed serving size and 2tbsp measured is actually more in weight, LOL.1
