No pain no gain!

I just started Ripped in 30, and Jillian said so many people go through life not showing up, not giving it everything they've got. I thought it was inspiring and made me think. Some food for thought for people today if it helps!
I've not been doing well on my diet and trying to recommit to fitness. You forget what matters, and now it's time to love myself and do for me to get back for my hard work.

Keep the pain... I will just take the gains. All or nothing can be... well problematic at times. Best wishes on your adventure.😁7

Fitness is a wonderful thing. So is working hard, and challenging oneself.
Discomfort is also fine . . . mild discomfort: Some sore muscles the day or two after workouts, for example.
Pain? Actual pain is your body telling you something is wrong, such as an injury. It's really important to distinguish challenge and discomfort from pain and injury. Learning to distinguish between those, and to manage workload insightfully, is part of maturing as an (aspiring) athlete. Overwork (and under-recovery) hinders fitness progress.
Giving it "all you've got" means using intelligence and self perception, not just exclusively using raw maximum muscular/cardiovascular effort. Using all the pieces well, mental, emotional, and physical, is a good thing.
That's what I don't like about the "No pain no gain" slogan. It has no nuance, doesn't encourage insight, and can create unnecessary (and counterproductive) risks of injury and burnout.
Many people don't choose to work as hard as they safely could (their choice). So, work hard . . . really hard, if it makes you happy. Many people can work harder than they'd presume, even. But pain? No.
Just my opinion.5 -
I don't work that hard, but I adjust my expectations for my effort levels, and it keeps me happy. Life overwhelms me easily, so I prefer daily happiness over meeting all of my idealistic goals.4
