What's the consensus? Are they really so bad, or is it all marketing to our fears? My face wash and moisturizer have parabins in them. Should I make the effort to get something else or not worry about it?

You might be able to find info on your products in this database: https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

I use my shampoo for face and body wash and conditioner for saving cream - limits the amount of products I need to track and buy.

Of course, I do have multiple "flavors" of shampoo/conditioner so this isn't saving any shower space

So much depends on the individual. I actually look for personal care items WITH parabens. Why? The preservatives they use instead in paraben-free products release formaldehyde which I am allergic to. To me, the very, very slight and unproven risk of cancer is better than the very real hives I get when exposed to formaldehyde.
