Baking and cooking with coconut flour

Hello everyone!

I’m starting the adventure of doing more keto baking. I see lots of recipes with coconut flour. I can not stand coconut and curious if it adds a strong coconut flavor?

Also - can coconut flour be substituted with almond flour? If so - is it the same measurement equivalency?

Thanks!

If a recipe is written for coconut flour you will want to triple it for almond flour. Coconut flour absorbs a TON of liquid and can make recipes dry so there is usually a very small amount added. I don’t find the flavour overly coconutty, but you can do other subs if it is really a flavour you dislike strongly. For example, if it calls for coconut oil as well, just use butter. Also, as the texture of low carb baked goods is very different from “regular” baked goods I would suggest halving or even quartering the recipes at first until you know if you enjoy them or not. I have been low carb for a long time and I love to bake but there are some things I don’t even bother with as they are not to my liking.

Definitely has a coconut flavor but not super strong. Try it to see if you like it! I think it's delicious.
