The Formidable Plateau

Hey folks.
I started losing weight almost a whole year ago. From August to January, I lost around 23-25 pounds and my weight loss stagnated. Then, I got pretty lazy and got off MFP, but I was still able to maintain my weight, give or take a few pounds. I started using MFP again in July, and I've taken up running. Despite this, my weight has been utterly stagnant! I know it's a process and I need to be patient, but I'm so sick of being in the 160s. Has anyone else hit a plateau? How did you get over it? I'd really appreciate any input. Also, feel free to add me. I'd love to have new friends :)

I haven't hit a plateau, but I've slowed down in the last month. Some of it is explicable, because I was eating somewhat more while a houseguest was around. Some of it is less explicable; probably I'm not fidgeting as much, and my body needs less energy to stay warm now that it's summer.

If you've started or restarted a diet and can't seem to lose, John Walker's suggestion in "The Hacker's Diet" is to do a partial fast, eating 500-600 calories/day, for a day or two (http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/, chapter on "Losing Weight," section title "The Fast Track"). I haven't done it myself, though. He successfully took off and kept off something like 80 lbs., so he must know something!
