Thyroid cancer survivor trying to loose weight

Hi my name is Addie within the last two years I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer I had to get a thyroidectomy and going to radiation. within the last year I have gained a lot of weight. I am 5 foot nothing ha and i use to weight 130 now i weight 176. I want to start losing it now that my meds are somewhat in the right place it has been so hard for me to lose weight this is my 3rd attempt this year but I want to do this for me because gaining so much weight has led me in somewhat of a depression I'd like some friends to join me that way I don't feel I'm on my own and I'm not the only one trying to fight feel free to add me I look forward to seeing your fitness journey, so we can motivate eachother

    Welcome to the community! <3

I also had a thyroidectomy. Once your meds stabilize, you adhere to a calorie deficit and that should lead to a weight loss.

Hi Addie. I had a Thyroidectomy that turned out to be thyroid cancer almost a year ago. My Synthroid dose was bang on right from the start so I didn't have any issues with that. I have a great endocrinologist. I'm not new to MFP. I've used it before and lost over 45 pounds. Then I had some family problems and gained it all back because I went back to eating the same foods that caused me to be overweight. I'm trying again and committing to a lifestyle change. I'm 5'2" and weight 195. Let's motivate each other

    Welcome aboard!

You're in good company. There are several people with varying degrees of thyroid issues on the site with a majority of success stories.

I had a total thyroidectomy in 2000 and put on 70 lbs over the next 14 years - had nothing to do with my thyroid and everything to do with me transitioning from a high active military career to a desk job in academia. I listened to much of the woo on the internet and how this impacted your metabolism (all false by the way). I found MFP in 2014 and lost 60 lbs the first year and been in maintenance for the past 4 years by making small changes and implementing a moderate caloric deficit.

Read the stickied threads on these forums. Listen to those who have been where you are now and you'll do great!

Looking forward to reading your post in the success stories.
