When you can't fall asleep

Do you get up to do something / read something then go back to bed? Or just keep your eyes shut and toss and turn till you fall asleep? What helps you fall asleep?
I was stupid enough to have coffee at 6pm and a coke zero at 9pm and now it's 2:22am and I'm tired but just can't fall asleep..

Yeah, caffeine after 7 p.m. is NOT a good idea. I tell myself that, yet drink it at 8 p.m. and stare at the wall at 2 a.m., too. For a lot of my friends, caffeine doesn't affect them because they drink so much coffee. I don't drink it at all, so my Diet Pepsi has me wired for hours afterwards.0

Reading a good book keeps me awake and getting frustrated over knowing I'm not going to get enough sleep also keeps me awake lol What works best for me is to close my eyes and refuse to open them to look at clock etc. I'll turn on music and just lay there. Watching TV or computer etc or having lights on keeps people awake from the lights alone. ~read studies on the light thing but too lazy to find and repost0

also having nocturnal furballs in the house doesn't help...0

Hey friend!! I always have trouble falling asleep - every damn day!!
What helps me:
Never go to bed before I feel tired enough! ...I'll lay there for hrs and get even less sleep!
Music!
Not MFP ideal, but beer/liquor! lol
Reading helps...but in bed. Soon enough I can't keep my eyes open.0 -
I wish I knew WHAT to do when I can't sleep! I've tried everything. I've tried listening to ocean sounds... cricket sounds... thunder/lightening sounds... and when all that fails, I've tried a bath. I btw also work nightshift, so THAT is probably the main reason I can't sleep at night when I'm off work. I finally decided last night to not even TRY to sleep at night anymore.... because just when I get my sleep pattern ON track again, I will have it OFF track again with work!!!
Working 12 hours is awesome.... its the lack of sleep at night that isn't really that awesome. lol0 -
I just toss and turn, or find a video by a youtuber I may find boring and let it play. It tends to help.:ohwell:0
