My typical buffet strategy to enjoy myself but also not go totally nuts is this:
    1. 1 plate rule (I can fill one plate up once, no going back for seconds), and
    2. I always go through whatever part of the buffet has veggies/lighter options first to fill up a good part of that plate. I do make sure to save space to get some of my favorite items, because I want to enjoy it, just not have a giant plate totally full of the most calorie dense things.

Most importantly, I had to let go of the "get your money's worth" mentality at buffets and all you can eats - I had to decide my fitness is worth eating less food for the same price, and it's not really benefitting me or anyone else for me to overeat.

All that said, on vacations I make sure to have some foods that I really enjoy and especially things that I don't get to have often - I just eat smaller portions of them than I used to. I usually shoot for maintenance on vacation and have some fun.

You can do this! I went on a food-intensive vacation for a week and I'll share the strategies that ultimately proved successful:
    1. *Prior* to my vacation, I banked calories so I had more to spare
    2. I didn't eat until noon (typical for me; I do IF every day), which minimizes the daily calorie intake
    3. I ate at maintenance during vacation
    4. I tried to prioritize my splurges- decided I didn't need to use the trip as a license to eat everything, but still made a point to enjoy favorite foods
    5. Logged every single day, even though it was mostly guesswork
    6. Didn't freak out when I got home and weighed! And got right back to my normal plan

    Good luck!

I know theres a thing called weekly calories but fif that's a thing, could monthly calories be a thing? Yearly? Sounds a bit insane

Of course, you can balance it all out for whatever period you choose. If I eat 1,000 extra calories every day this week, I can eat 250-500 under maintenance every day for 2-4 weeks and it will all be same in the end. The trick is, i actually DO have to cut back when i get home, in reality not just in my head 🤣. That’s where it’s easy to drop the ball.

It gets trickier for people who are really close to the minimum calorie line though. It would also depend on the person if paying back calories on top of a deficit is a good idea for them.

I try to keep it easy so I confine myself mostly to a week. I know others will stretch to 2 and I may do that too when my calories are cut down further but right now it isn't necessary.
