I’ve lost 44.1 lbs & Wife lost 18.9 in 7 weeks!

The two of us started on May 12th and have seen great results. We’re doing the Atkins diet and absolutely love the low carb lifestyle. The numbers are certainly moving in the right direction. I’m still a very long way from my goal, but certainly glad we took this first step by deciding to do low carb.

Thank you to all of you for the support and encouragement! I’m telling you, it goes a long ways on those sluggish days!!!

Everyone stay strong!!

Congratulations on your results so far, but let me sound a note of caution: you are both, especially you, losing weight way too fast, which indicates that you're seriously undereating.

The fastest safe rate of loss, which should only be undertaken by the very obese, is 2 lb per week. That would be 14 lb over 7 weeks. You probably feel great at the moment, but it can take time for undereating to catch up with you. I strongly suggest that you pause to take stock of where you are and what you're doing, and settle down to something that may be slower but will be healthier in the long term.

Best of luck for the weight loss marathon!

With all due respect, you are not a doctor. How do you know I don’t see a weight loss specialist? (Because I do). You’re also assuming, and responding, that I am underrating, yet I track every single food and calorie that I eat, DAILY! I am eating 2000-2750 calories per day. I also drink loads of water each day. Finally, unless you weighed 395 when you stated your weight loss journey, then you would have no clue how fast weight would come off when you drastically change your diet and workout regimen from where I was prior to this!

I appreciate your response, but sometimes I just wish people would keep scrolling rather than try to tell someone what is right or wrong for them. We have a short term plan, intermediate plan, and lifelong plan in place as we hit those stages.

You have no way of knowing that I am not a doctor (although you are correct that I am not). And I started my weight loss journey at 385, so I do in fact know exactly how fast weight can come off when drastically changing your diet. I ate under 1000 calories every day for several months and still did not lose weight as fast as you are.

    Faster is not better.

Everything that @ceiswyn has said is correct. You must have expected someone on MFP to make such a comment given that you have lost 44.1lbs in 7 weeks. Why not mention in your original post your starting weight, that you are under medical supervision and that you are eating a good amount of calories, then you would not have been given the good advice @ceiswyn shared.

People reading your post may adopt an unhealthy approach to weight loss based upon your initial comments. I think men are especially open to this.

I don’t expect ANYONE to say anything. I shouldn’t have to explain my weight loss and how I have a doctor watching. Also, I post weekly on the success story page. Also, each week I mention that my diary AND profile is public. Anyone may look. The one time I don’t, this is what I get. Lesson learned.

The reason I know you’re not a doctor is because I have seen your other posts telling people how they should do things. Also in another of your posts you mentioned your job and working with IT people.

There’s no race, and could care less how fast or slow the numbers come off!! I set my goal for 3 lbs per week, and still lose at this pace through diet and exercise. BP has come wag down, levels are best they have been in years, and lifestyle change of food has been amazing! My “long term” goal was 250 by July 2020. That alone should tell you my goals and what pace I had set.

Best of luck in your continued journey. Also glad you have found success!

    No thanks :)

'Visible to friends' isn't quite the same as 'public and anyone may look', but I'm not here to have an argument; I only wanted to sound a note of caution about the speed of your loss, both for you and for people who may be tempted to emulate you but without the medical supervision.

I would never ask anyone to emulate me, but I’m always willing to share my journey. Thanks for advice, and God Bless.
