My current weight is 143 Lbs Body Fat 30% and Hight 5’4. I am looking to loose 15 lbs and at get by fat down to 22%.
One of the Gyms is having a fitness challenge to loose 20 Lb or 6% body fat in 6 weeks. They will be taking an initial deposit of $400 and if you don’t lose 6% body fat OR 20 Lb, you don’t get your deposit back. They mentioned they will give meal prep, work outs and all the jazz. Is it safe to take up this challenge?

This is a scam, someone else lost their money doing it. If you search the history here you should find the thread. Not only is it virtually impossible, it would be unhealthy for someone of your size. Plus, their scale is not accurate at measuring body fat and will not show your results in any way that would allow you to keep your money. Try a gym that doesn’t try to rip people off.20

There will be fine print that requires you to follow the instructions to the letter. Being human, your likely compliance rate will be about 70%. You will be grouchier and fitter when you are done.
Sure, go for it. Then follow up with a quieter routine that will help you keep your fitness gains.
Don’t skip any stretching and warmup routines, and if you feel any sharp pain, stop immediately. If you are so hungry you can’t sleep, eat.
I believe the scammed couple were road blocked by endless demands for documentation. So keep all receipts and logs. Get everything signed off.9 -
Didn't you already ask this question? Or was it someone else? Exact same question was asked and same answers given.
Possible - yes, barely
Probable - no, not likely
Healthy? No.
Scam? Kind of, yes!

I wouldn't go for it. If you can afford to spend $400 on 6 weeks of training, then spend it on someone who values their services enough to charge that and not try to scam people. If $400 is out of your budget range, then spend whatever is within your budget on a budget appropriate fitness program that doesn't try to scam people.
In general I would always be SUPER weary of people who lose money if they help you be successful. They have financial motive for you not to succeed. It's like the opposite of a money back guarantee. "if our product doesn't work for you, then we get to keep your money." Weird.18 -
Thanks a lot for all the great insights. I am definitely not going to do it now. Really appreciate your feedback.25

$400???!!!
20 lbs in 6 weeks is more than 3 lb per week! With 20 lbs, you should not try to lose more than 1 lb per week. In the unusual case you could lose that much, it would include a lot of muscle loss as well as fat.7 -
That 400 will buy some new clothes when you do drop those 20 pounds, in YOUR timeline.5

Wait! Did I read that right!
You pay them $400 and if they don't deliver on their promise they keep the money. So like an anti-money back guarantee. That's backwards. That's now how things are supposed to work. What incentive do they have to help you achieve their goals if it COSTS them money to do so?
I mean there are only 2 possible outcomes for this business model.
1. They sell an effective product that meets their claims, which means they never make any money and they go out of business.
2. They KNOWINGLY sell an ineffective product that will never work so that they can keep peoples money. (BTW. This business model is better know as 'Scam' Sham', 'Con' or 'Grift').
Which do you think is more likely?

Nuh-uh. Nope. Nyet. Nein.
...don't do it.5 -
Wow, that's a really tough challenge that would only work for people who have a very substantial amount they want to use. Heck no.0

What do you get if you win? Lol
It wouldn’t be too difficult to manipulate your water weight to lose 20lbs in a couple days if you’re a male over 200 pounds.
For your weight it would be difficult, but do able. Definetly not worth it if you’re not winning any cash to do it though IMO1 -
Wow, that's a *kitten* gym. To get that amount of money back people could end up doing very unhealthy behaviors to hit some arbitrary number. That's why I'm way of stuff like dietbet. At least dietbet is only $30. $400?!
My gym has NO weight loss challenges anywhere. It focuses on a strong body and a strong mind (you can get counseling there, too). They have nutritionists and such, too, but the focus is usually on healthy habits and longterm lifestyle changes rather than losing weight quickly. It's so refreshing after joining places that were always advertising expensive 6 week challenges like this.0 -

Not to mention, after three days tops you'd feel like garbage.0
