Hi everyone! I'm on going to a seafood restaurant with my family tonight for dinner and I really want to succeed in terms of healthily eating. What are some recommendations of things I should order?

Seafood in general is pretty healthy. I would just not order anything deep fried...unless that's what I particularly wanted. Healthy eating is about your diet overall, not the minutia of this meal or that.

If you're looking for something lower calorie, pay attention to the preparation style. Fish that is grilled or broiled will probably have less calories than deep fried or pan fried/sautéed. Also, good fish doesn't need a sauce. I like mine prepared simply with lemon and herbs.

The vast majority of seafood is high protein, low fat, and low calorie. Salmon is higher calorie as it has higher fat (its very healthy fat, but it may fit less in your goal). Most white fish, shrimp, and shellfish are low fat. After that, it's all about what they put on the seafood that could make it caloric. Breading, fried, or heavy sauces can add a lot of calories.

Keep your sides simple as well. I usually go with rice and vegetables.

Just avoid those elements where you drench everything in melted butter. If you want lobster stick to lemon juice and a little drizzle of butter.

If you find an entree that checks all the boxes except for the cooking method, ask for them to broil or bake it.

They should be able to accommodate your needs. Enjoy!

Keep in mind that some restaurants will call it a fish baked but what they mean is that it is breaded and baked. Personally I think this is a good choice for the small additional calories but if you pre-log you may not think to add them.

Seafood in general is pretty healthy. Salmon, sardines, good amount of protein and healthy fats. Shrimp is low calories if you're not looking to have too much calories.
