Is one day of exceeding sodium levels bad?

Is it? And what are the causes of too much sodium levels?

the only issue, if you don't have any health issues, is increased water retention, which can hide fat loss, when stepping on the scale.

What causes it? eating more sodium (salt) than your body is used to.

Agree with @erickirb. As long as you don't have health issues, it isn't bad, but may result in water retention. I follow a lower sodium diet, however, I eat out for lunch every Tuesday with my parents. Even those I choose carefully, restaurant food is usually high in sodium. So my weight goes up for 2-3 days, due to water weight gain, then returns to normal. It is a weekly pattern, but I am still able to lose weight.

Nope, unless you have a medical problem for which you need to restrict sodium.

Water weight from more salt is a thing though. Had two cup a soups with just enough water to dissolve the powder two days ago.
    Yesterday weight up by 700gr
Today weight still 500gr higher than expected.
    Oh well...
