Good Morning! I am new to fitnesspal and have just completed my entries for today. I joined a 42 Day Detox Challenge and fasted for almost three entire days so my entries are pretty empty for those days but now that I have completed that I have been treating myself to carbs again! But...I do plan to keep in line with the exercise and fitness routine they taught me during that time and to keep the nutrition plan in mind as I move forward. It was pretty strict because it is designed to help you kick start your body into shape during those 42 days. I hit the required goal and have treated myself a little bit since yesterday though!

Good luck on your journey.
I can't imagine seeing carbs are a "treat" (well i also cant imagine fasting haha). Hopefully you find a road that works for you though. everyone is different.
Personally I simply kept things basic with a small calorie deficit i stuck to over time and successfully lost the weight without it being too hard at all and hopefully learning habits i will maintain for life to avoid putting weight back on.
