Hello

2018 wasn't a great year for me physically, I had been struggling with pain in my right big toe for some time and had to stop excercising which lead to weight gain. In the March I had had enough and had gone to the doctors, after blood test, X-Ray's and an ultrasound, it looked like arthritis, but due to raised Uric acid levels I was told to try a gout diet "just in case" and come back in 3 months... Anyone who has done this knows it is hell. It was so restricting and I certainly wasn't a nice person to be around.

I worked hard, but was still in agony barely able to walk some days and sleeping poorly, I took it upon myself to have bloods done after 2 months instead of 3, we were going on holiday in the September and the pain was so intense and had not changed due to my stupid diet I just wanted to start proper treatment. I managed to lower my Uric acid levels to 39 from 59, and after visiting the Dr got new anti inflammatories.

Still pain..... That's when I look to the Internet and read a much as I could about living with arthritis. What supplements to take, what foods help and what excercise is best, because it was quite clear if I didn't keep moving I would seize up.

In December I was at my heaviest, bloated and unfit, things had to change, walking was looking like the best form of excercise for my condition. It was low impact and of course free. For Christmas my hubby bought me a Gos enabled fitness tracker and I was good to go.

By pure accident I stumbled upon country walking magazine and their annual challenge to walk 100 miles in a year. That was it.... I had found my challenge, so on 1st January this year I started recording my miles.

The mag encourages all levels, you can either track your steps to reach 1000 miles or as I am doing track "boots on" miles. I only track dedicated walks. There is an amazing FB page with supportive people and inspirational stories. Also fun a nd mini challenges along the way. I even have a wall chart supplied by the mag to colour in and track my progress (hubby worries about me sometimes)

On June 27th I hit 500 miles, Yay, I am 11lbs lighter and there is still 6 months to go.

It's never to late to join me.
Your year can start whenever you want
Walking 1hr a day should see you reach 1000 in 365 days...
2.74 miles a day = 1000 miles in a year

Boots on or steps the choice is yours
It's just about doing
