    Lots of variables here... "best" is going to be largely subjective.

    But taking your question at face value, I'd suggest carbohydrates in whatever form you like. Could be fruit, candy, energy gels, starches, etc. A little fat/protein can be good, too, depending on the workout/person/timing, etc.
