Has anyone struggled with medication that is a must in their life and weight gain. I have recently began two medication that make me feel great and helps with my body but I have also noticed that my weight is creeping up and I would hate to change the medication bc I feel great on it other than my weight. Also both these medication are something I’m gonna be on for years. Any suggestions or anyone go through something similar?

Start tracking and logging your food. Set your Goals here to lose/maintain/gain depending on what you want.

Log food daily for 4-6 weeks. There is a calorie amount that will keep you at your current weight and there is a calorie amount that will cause you to lose weight. Regardless of the medication, you can manage your weight. I think any time you go on meds there are going to be some adjustments but unless it's a steroid, it's not usually so much about the medication as it is more about lack of motivation or exercise/movement or a temporary inflammatory response - which would resolve in time on its own. I bet you'd find that your calorie needs haven't changed, you are likely just not moving as much as you need.

It can be managed. Don't give up, don't give in.

The first thing you need to figure out is WHY the medication causes weight gain. Either it is causing water retention, it slowed your metabolism, or you are eating more than you did before. The first 2 need to be discussed with your prescriber. The 3rd is the most common and you may be able to deal with it yourself.

If you are eating more than you did, why? Are you more hungry? Are you feeling anxious so you eat mindlessly to ease the anxiety? If you are more hungry, look into volume eating where you eat larger amounts of lower calorie foods. It may help with anxiety eating too. You can have low calorie snacks around that you eat when the urge hits.

In my case, I was hungry more often. All it took was a change in the timing as to when I took my medication. By taking it an hour before bedtime I still received the therapeutic benefits but no longer had the excess hunger. This was something I found out when discussing it with my doctor.

I'm on two medications known for weight gain. I've noticed when I went on one that I always feel hungry. I've started eating at certain times each day and eat a lot of veggies with protein, it helps me feel full. I also feel bloated. I lose weight slower than projected but it's better than not losing anything at all.
