Nifty study by Drs Brad Schoenfeld and Bill Campbell where the participants were neither obese nor newbie lifters yet gained muscle mass and lost fat on a high protein diet with resistance training.
Per Schoenfeld, the take home is that recomp is doable with a high protein diet and a regimented lifting program.

Pretty encouraging stuff and appears to contradict the common claim that it's impossible to gain muscle while also losing fat.

Possibly - the abstract says there was an increase in fat-free mass, and most fat-free mass isn't muscle. The strength increase was the same for both high & normal protein groups. So, further research is needed. :+1:

That's true, that's all the abstract tells us.
However, I imagine that the researchers have access to more data than just FFM considering Dr Schoenfeld himself stated definitively "Thus, contrary to what some claim, you can simultaneously gain muscle while reducing fat."
Could be he's extrapolating but that would seem out of character for him.
