Maintaining fitness when taking a step back

Hey
I've ridden a lot since April and done a couple of Sportives but now want to take a step back for a couple of months and rest my knees and mind. I ride 40- 50 miles with 50kg of main bike/trailer/dog
I'm planning to use the gym resistance machines with a bit of cardio twice a week. Additionally Aqua once a week if possible.
I'm also hoping to get out 1-2 times a week on my Brompton and trailer and bum around on the trails (about 15 miles) with the mutt.
Do you think I will lose my strength? I don't want to lose all that effort for 4 months to get to 50 miles with a loaded bike.
