Im had an open appendectomy 2 months ago (5 inch vertical stomach incision still healing). My stomach seems swollen more than usual but I have gained 20 lbs this past year. Not sure if the puffy stomach is from the surgery or my weight gain. I measured myself and I gained 5 inches in my waist since the last time I took measurements (years ago). My bust and hips are the same as before. Can 20lbs equal 5 inches on ur waist or is some of that swelling from the surgery. I cant even think about working out at this time. I'm afraid even if I lose the 20lbs i'm still going to have that pregnant look :( Has anyone else had this happen to them? If it is swelling from the surgery - how long does it last?

Your surgery was 2 months ago. If that swelling is from surgery, you need to return to your doctor ASAP. I'd say the increased inches are due to the increase in weight.

I had the same surgery, I know sometimes when you have stomach surgery the muscles may not grow back straight, or may grow back outwards or something (this was about 20 yrs ago so can't remember the details now) but go see your doctor just to check. My incision didn't heal properly so it indents and makes my stomach seem to stick out, but not by that much.

That's not from surgery, that's from weight gain.
