Garmin 235 Issue

My Garmin will count steps, but it doesn't turn it into distance. For example, 23,142 steps so far today (over a 3 hour run) and both the watch and Connect say I traveled 1.4 miles. It does this whether I am running on the treadmill, or outside. Any ideas? The Garmin folks are clueless.

Which Garmin device? And where are you looking for distance traveled? Are you starting a run activity?

Garmin 235. When I start a run activity (indoor/treadmill or select outside), I get a step count on the Connect app but the Distance field doesn't populate properly. For example, my 13 mile run this morning gave me over 23,000 steps on the Connect app, but the Distance field on my watch said 1.4 miles, and Distance on the Connect app was also 1.4 miles.

I’m sorry for asking which model-The post says which model.

The distance you’re looking at is for the run activity? Or for the day?

Is there a discrepancy in distance on days you don’t do a run activity?

TM distance for TM run activities can be crazy off and non-sensical really - there’s an option to calibrate which might help that.

If it’s all distances for everything/overall daily distance (on the steps tab) - including days you don’t do a run activity, check your stride length and make sure it’s not set at something funky.

If the distance is way off on outdoor run activities, check the GPS track (distance should be coming from GPS for outdoor runs).

The distance for the run activity.

How do I find the option to calibrate the TM distance?

Distance seems to be off on everything, whether I run or not. How do I check the GPS track?

    Thanks for your help.

I don’t have a 235. But on my Garmin, if I hit the button to stop a Tm activity, I can scroll down (past save, resume, etc) and there’s an option to Calibrate.

For the outdoor runs, you should have a map of whatever route the watch tracked (in red) when you first load an activity in Garmin connect. Does the red line look like the route you ran? Or is it missing huge chunks or way off from what you ran?

I've never had this problem, but when my Garmin gets wierd, the most useful thing I can do is to turn the watch off completely, let it reset, and start it again. That has helped with the issues I have where it doesn't save the activity or only saves part of it (i.e. total distance but not individual laps).
