Have you had a referral to a dietician or education classes? If not, ask for it.
Are you tracking your own blood glucose levels at home? Different people react differently to various diets and foods.
If you are overweight, weightloss is the single best thing you can do for yourself.
While continuong to learn, look at the Mediterranean Diet. It tends to offer a well balanced approach to lowering carbs and improving blod markers, including glucose.0 -
The Low Carber Daily Forum group and The Keto group have a lot of diabetic members.
The Keto group is not just ketoers.... There are a few members in group who eat Mediterranean diet for medical issues. Both are very diverse groups, but I think most have diabetes or other medical issues.0 -
i got my blood sugar down with a combination of factors.
walking - not super fast, but not super slow, but over 30 minutes and without stopping. when i did this previously, i did 3 20-minute walks per day with good results. walking worked better for me than other exercises - YMMV.
eating smaller meals. instead of eating breakfast, lunch, dinner, i cut down my foot into 6ish small meals per day. i'm talking 200 to 250 calories each, but my blood sugar didn't rise as high after meals with these smaller meals. i try and keep carbs at or below 20 grams per meal, eating small meals is challenging because you can't miss one of your small meals or you can crash, so i always carry a quest bar with me for emergencies.
not eating sugar. i stopped eating sugar foods almost entirely, replacing them. for example, i switched to no-sugar-added ice cream and fudge bars (krogers rocks!), switched to quest protein bars from the previous ones with sugar, russell stover sugar free candy or sees sugar free and so on. some are better than others, and some can have a laxative effect. i sweeten my coffee and tea with trader joe's stevia extract (the others don't taste as good), and i sweeten my oat bran cereal with stevia plus 4 grams of xylitol.
of course, it takes over a month to see big changes on your A1C as it's cumulative, but i got my blood sugar down to normal in just over 2 months with no meds.0
