Creative ways to use whey protein

I need more protein. So I bought some whey protein powder in a vanilla/almond flavour. Tried it for the first time today by stirring it into my oats/skyr yogurt/fruit. First problem is it made the yogurt go totally liquid. Second problem is it tastes VILE. Far, far too sweet.

Does anyone have any creative ways in which I can try using this stuff which might disguise the sweetness a bit? I am reluctant just to bin the pouch as it was expensive.

For whatever reason, when I have PP in smoothies, I can use a full serving, if not more. (My smoothies do have either a lot of ingredients, or strongly flavored ingredients.)

But if I am putting PP into food such as overnight oats, I need to reduce the serving to half and even then I'm not crazy about it.

However, if you found your PP vile and overly sweet because it has artificial sweetener, my only suggestion is indeed binning it, as I find that vile as well. Or you might have a friend or family member who doesn't mind artificial sweetener that you can give it too.

Or give it to the homeless. That's my go to when I want to get rid of food.

I'm not sure why it would liquify your yogurt tho. Are you sure it wasn't the fruit that did that?

Maybe add it to cold coffee/espresso, really strong bitter stuff? Or make a smoothie with lots of bitter greens

I add a scoop to a tub of quark
As my pre bed meal, the tart of the
Quark will help mask the sweetness of the
    Whey flavouring

I'm quite sure. I normally soak oats and chia seeds for a few hours. Then I stir in the skyr. At that point I get something the consistency of quite thick porridge. Then I stirred in the protein powder, fully expecting to get clay-like and have to add more liquid, when instead it just turned wetter and wetter. The fruit was a chopped up nectarine and some strawberries, which I added later and did not blend into it, so I am at a loss.

Coffee sounds like a good idea. I'll try that next.

Plain yogurt rather than flavored yogurt will cut the sweetness. Different brands of PP cause the yogurt to have different textures. Some make it super thick, some make it more runny. I don't know why, but experiment with brands if you want to keep trying.

Just be aware that you have to dissolve it in cold water before adding it to hot coffee. It will clump up if you add it to a hot liquid. I make an iced coffee with mine.

Yes, this time of year I brew the coffee the night before, refrigerate it after it cools down, and add the PP the next day.

The coffee worked (sort of). Half a scoop of powder dissolved in a bit of cold water and added to a double espresso made a drink that I could gulp down without gagging. I'm not going to be buying any more of that stuff but at least I've found a way to use it up. I'm torn on the recipes just_Tomek has provided. The cheesecake sounds nice but this particular powder is so teeth-tingingly sweet that I think it may ruin the thing. Another possibility that has occurred to me is to make it into meringue, topped with skyr yogurt and tart fruit. But I don't really want to wake up my sweet tooth again.

Different protein powders will drive different results. I found PEScience and Quest to mix the best in foods.

Personally, i like a keto chia seed pudding.

    6 oz of almond milk
    20g of chia seeds
1 scoop of whey (PES snickerdoodle is one of my favs).
    1 tbsp of erythritol
2 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa if i use chocolate protein powder

Adding it to oatmeal- I used to do that with my late fiance when we were competing in body building- figure. Bodybuilders have a plethora of ideas! Try to google " protein powder recipes "

I make a pudding by blending (until smooth) 16oz cottage cheese with a serving of protein powder and some peanut butter (or powdered PB). Depending on the powder, I may add sweetener. If yours is already quite sweet, this might work for you (without adding sweetener).

I also make a cheesecake that is pretty much the same as above only minus the peanut butter, add 2 eggs, 8 oz cream cheese/Greek yogurt and a small box of cheesecake flavored pudding. This also may or may not need some additional sweetener depending on protein powder brand. So this might also work if yours is very sweet.

For future reference, there are unsweetened, unflavored protein powders.

I don't love the first one I bought, which is a vegan one mostly made of pea. But, I realized afterwards that I also didn't care for milk made from pea protein either when I tried it a while ago, so I think that just isn't the right option for me. It's not so bad that I can't mix it into smoothies, although I've been using half doses in a smoothie that also has milk and Greek yogurt.

I'm gonna try one next that is made from several seeds. I tend to like the earthy, nutty flavor of seeds.
