Swim tracking-Fitbit Versa incomplete or MFP?

Question for those who swim wearing their Versa and use MyFitness Pal for logging food? Before FB I just logged my swim time estimate in MFP. I’m starting swimming after being in Pre-Masters a few years ago. My FB didn’t catch all the laps today since I have to stop. Are you supposed to leave it on the whole time or pause? Can I log the additional laps in FB or MyFP or is it only time spent not laps? I swam 22 laps of 25 yards, so 550 yards. It says I only did 12 laps. I was in the water 45 minutes but resting after each length. I think I should go into MFP app and add 15 minutes for the missing time. Advice?

I don't have a FitBit but used to have a Garmin and now have a Moov. I use the below website and then enter it as a manually created exercise. I have found the calorie estimate to be close on all of these and pretty accurate for myself. It takes pace into account which I think is more accurate as the "moderate" or "vigorous" MFP uses can be pretty subjective.
